I rehomed a cavalier king charles in the summer. She is 4 years old, and has some rather nasty habits, such as eating her own poo. Anyway, she also sometimes pees in the house at nighttime. I always take her out just before I go to bed and she goes to the toilet, but then sometimes she will then pee during the night as well. Could this be incontinence or just a little bit naughty. She does get told off when she does, and will maybe not do it again for 3 or 4 days. It seems to have no rhyme or reason, so any ideas???? Thanks

If she was incontinent it wouldn't just happen at night. If my dogs aren't in their crate at night they would be messing all over the kitchen, but they never ever mess in their crate. They know they go out for the toilet before they go to bed, and straight out as soon as they are let out of their crate in the morning.

There is lots of advise on here for crate training, and it makes housetraining much easier. I think your new baby just needs re-training.

You can go with the crate if you want- thats what i would do.

But first i would get her check for a UTI by a vet.

after that you can take her water up 2 hours before you go to bed.

Take her to pee before you go to bed and treat her when she pee's outside

Make sure she has plenty to keep herself occupied, a stuffed kong or a bone to chew on. It could be a little stress peeing.

Get up a bit earlier and take her out to pee and treat again.
