Dog poo compass?

My dogs do seem to have a very specific way that they want to poop and they are very insistent that they seek out the perfect place!
We say that Lily-Rose does the ‘poop dance’. You can tell when she needs to go as she does this weird sort of sniff and wiggle, spins in circles and dips her bum, spins some more and finally goes. It’s like a weird dance ritual.

I had a terrier that did that, sometimes took a lot of spinning with his arse at a weird angle to get the right spot.

Oh that is Pen, and sometimes she spins fora so long that we are then too close and she has to set off again to get a suitable head start.

Jake refuses to poop if being observed, he likes to do it in private, unless he's crossing a road when he quite likes to sh1t on the white lines and stop the traffic, with me apologising and scooping at the same time!! Peril can go from a flat out gallop to a poo squat in less than 3 paces.

The main focus of horse/dog owners lives, poo in its infinite variety! Mind you I suppose people with small children are just as bad !

Another poo ponder, do you find it mainly men who wont pick up after their dogs? I had an alteration today with a man with four large dogs. they got about 50 yards from the car in a local park and squatted. Owner wasnt going to pick up until I said something, then its Oh when youve got 4 its difficult. Well dont have four then, or let them off in relays. Another man further in didnt pick up, and I find that when there is a couple walking their dogs its mainly the woman that picks up. Perhaps its just in my area though

Nationwide I think, PL.

Being the kind person that I am , like you I also point out, in a friendly, helpful sort of way, that their dog has opened their bowels when apparently they failed to notice (I act as if I am doing them a favour ;)). I feel sometimes that they deliberately avoid looking at their dog when it is performing this necessary task and can therefore claim innocence. I thoroughly dislike ploughing through unseen dog shit.

I am always surprised by the amount of dog owners who think it perfectly acceptable to leave their dog's excrement adorning the pavement in front of someone's house. Presumably the dog is on a lead so I am unsure how this oversight occurs.

And don't get me started about shrubs decorated with poo bags.

On a lighter note. Big girl was perverse this morning and pooed in completely the wrong direction:rolleyes:.

My little dude won't go in the garden at all unless he's had an emergency, prefers to go on his walks. No idea how I trained that into him, but its great.

One of my greyhounds is the total opposite - he won’t go on a walk at all! (well, he’s managed maybe 3 times in the 9 months I’ve had him). We can be out for 2 hours and he will rush into the garden and poo as soon as we get home ? he is weird mind you ???

I had a greyhound who when out on a walk would push his bum right into a hedge and poo. I rarely picked up after him, only if it was someones front garden hedge.

We seem to have strayed from the original "north/south dog poo" study and I am a guilty party ;)

To me, it depends on where dogs do their business as to whether it is appropriate to pick up.

PL was referring to a park and I think it was brave of her to speak to the man about it. I was referring to an area where I used to go where the grass is mown, people stroll and children play (it includes a playground). I never went out of my way to advise people their dog had opened his bowels but if they were close enough I mentioned it, which was only a couple of times to be fair and one man (a retired hospital manager!) was a repeat offender and I know I was not the only person to speak to him about it. Another repeat offender was also a man though I never mentioned it to him. My last dog had a "comfort zone" so maintaining a distance and engaging with my dog was more important to me.

I wouldn't be offended if someone advised me that my dog had had a poo and I hadn't noticed.

The poo on the pavements is disgusting and there is no excuse and, although I live in a pleasant area, it is prolific.

My house backs onto an open grass area, which does get mown, and includes a small wood. Children come to play in the wood and have ball games on the grass. I have seen people standing with their dog while it crapped on the grass, look around to see if anyone was watching and, if the coast was clear, just walk away and leave it. There is a dog bin so people don't even have to carry the poo home.

I resent having to pick my way through dog poo when I leave by my back gate and mothers are not happy when their child gets caked in dog excrement. My friend's bungalow is on a corner of the site and for a while someone was depositing their used poo bags at the base of her front garden wall, there was quite a heap - what is it with people?

It only takes a minute to pick it up and I don't see a problem with doing that.

Rant over.
