What are my options?
Google brings up the lidded type with a swing front door. Cecil, my little dog will soon enough figure that out.
I’m a little traumatised to have had it brought to my attention tonight by a vigorous “hey mummy” facial lick that my dog barrier around Arlo cats litter tray is an epic fail…. ?
Recommendations please?
Due to the fact Arlo got so lost as a young cat and came close again recently we do have him inside overnight so he still has a litter tray incase.

A deep Tesco storage box, no lid, on top of a second deep storage box with a lid. The bottom box can be used to store spare bags of litter. This also has the bonus of cats never toileting over the side and litter also doesn’t get kicked everywhere.

Ours is at the bottom of the stairs so the old cat only has to do a little hop in and out but it’s good enough to keep the JRT out of it!

Would your cat use a top entry litter box? They're not my cup of tea but they may stop your dog invading!

That’s a good simple idea. Does the cat not jump up onto the side as a mid way landing and top it?

A stair gate is possible I guess, maybe the spare room. It’s currently on the landing and oh doesn’t want a gate on the stairs so they are popping up for a quick snack.
I’ve never seen or tried a top entry box. Will have a look.
Dogs are so grim at times! My little lab did it once but moving it upstairs was enough to stop him. Guess that’s the difference in lovely labs and tiny terriers
