Dog refusing to eat in the morning?

My dogs have been on the raw DUCK diet for around 6 weeks- both collies. Recently my younger collie has been refusing to eat his breakfast or any other raw foods offered in the morning. He'll eat toast or treats but no 'proper' food.

Come evening.. He'll obliterate his food with no issues whatsoever so I've started to bulk up his evening meal because I'm worried he'll start loosing weight.

He seems very happy and normal in himself and no change to his behaviour or attitude to things. Nothing has changed in the house or my life either.

Any ideas?

Personally I think most dogs are fine to eat once a day, so you could just move to an evening only feeding regime. You could always call the vet if this worries you.

I would not start down the roads of offering many alternatives, as this can just make them even fussier and in any case toast is not really very good for a dog - the odd crust as a special treat will not hurt, but you don't want it to become a regular thing.

Keep an eye on his weight, either by popping him on the scales at the vets (as long as you let them know, most vets seem happy for you to pop in and use the scales, mine certainly were when Henry was on his diet) or by condition scoring him. However I'm sure he'll be fine:)

I'd just leave him to it and only worry if an when he does lose weight :)
DUCK is a proper conditioning food though, it is quite heavy. I feed it from a Kong and if I leave a chicken carcass and a Kong for him in the morning he won't touch the Kong until lunchtime or even the evening sometimes.

Thanks all, I'll just monitor it and see how we go. He eats a large evening meal (because I was worried about him missing breakfast) and he eats all of his evening meal AND any snacks such as chicken wings without any hesitation.

Four slices a day- 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening.

Morning is just DUCK plus a chicken wing afterwards and evening is DUCK with rice and a chicken wing.

Obviously he's only having the evening part now whereas greedy guts number 2 is having both morning and evening but he is a bigger collie all round.

My fella gets about six, between the Kongs and the pocket, so that's about right. You could drop the rice if you were looking to cut anything, there is grain in the food already.

One of my Collies is a fussy eater too.I tend to give them all biscuits in the morning which they regard as a treat and wolf down.In the evening they have their main meal which they are ready to eat.Keep an eye on weight and condition, and if he maintains his weight, don't worry too much.
