If the new dog breeding legislation for Wales goes through next year 2012 then there should be some considerable changes. As tracability, not only for every puppy bred by a licenced breeder (microchiped before sale) but also every breeding female and stud dog must be microchipped too. They also must each have a 'passport' with all details contained within which must be lifelong even to the day the breeder decides they wish to rehome the female/stud dog or is taken in by rescue or if PTS, that information must be included in the 'passport' too. That is a step in the right direction.

There will be no excuse for those in rescue that take on an ex breeding bitches in a poor condition to not complain to the authorities and to not report the breeder as all dogs and breeders will be indentifiable.

What happens now is that some rescues for the fear of not being allowed to take more dogs from a breeder unfortunately do not report all what they witness. It is known that some rescues are even more obliging towards puppy farmers/commercial dog breeders by asssisting them not only with taking their surplace dogs but by providing commodities such as beds, bedding, worming etc which in my opinion is just working hand in glove with the very people they are taking dogs from in the name of rescue.

It is not so clean cut and above board always as one would imagine rescue to be or should be. For some it is a money making business, as not all rescues are charities some are businesses and VAT registered operating just like any other business under the umberella of 'rescue', yes they do of couse rescue but their funds are forever increasing and they are always crying poverty for the 'sake of the dogs' but looking deeping may indicate another more seedy side to rescue that one would first imagine.
