Can anyone recommend any truly excellent dog rescues in the Devon area* please as a family member is having to re-home their dog but, whilst I can recommend lots of good rescues for small furries, I'm not as clued up to what's out there for dogs.
Really needs to be the best place possible as this dog is a sweetheart.
Thanks.

*Can be further afield, bearing in mind people transporting dog are in Oxfordshire, dog itself currently resides in Devon.

Although I dont have personal dealings with them, I have heard only good things said about the North Devon Animal Ambulance who rehome dogs. It's a local charity that is always the first one to be recommended when anyone appeals for help on facebook.

ARC Animal Rescue Centre Devon. Very good, a friend of mine is involved there. Lovely place.

^^^ Ditto this. We got a lovely dog from there, they're rehoming place is near me! Place called Ottery St Mary in East Devon. Easily accessible from the M5/A30.

Is there really NO other alternative but for your family member(s) to give up the dog?? No-one who could take it?? What a horrible shame. But better to go to a rescue than rehome privately.........

And of course you could always put some info on here to see if anyone can help??
Not sure it's my place to, but certainly if there's nowhere for the poor girlie by Monday I will see if I can.
She could come and live with us only she doesn't get along with other dogs, cats or small animals so would be absolutely miserable! It's a really messy, horrible situation. My family had never had to re-home an animal ever ???

Is it? Though a dog that can’t share a home with other dogs, cats or small animals is never going to be easy to place...

OP can you give a rough idea of age and size of dog in case anyone on here knows of anyone looking?

I would be concerned about rehoming a dog with issues without rescue back up. If the adoption broke down what would then happen to the dog?

I hope you can find a rescue place for your family member's dog but I think it would be worth posting details here as there have been a few dogs rehomed successfully privately through this forum.

like horses only a tiny proportion of rehoming of dogs is done by the charity sector every day all over the country communities quietly sort out problems .
i have a dog here like that it was found injured taken to a vets by the time the vet would have had to pass it on to the dog warden a home with my mum was had been found no fuss no drama just it’s life sorted it’s now with me with her cat who did come from a shelter .
if an adoption breaks down would the animal be any worse off ? It just ends up with a shelter at that point .
the world is full of people capable of looking after dogs without I put from a charity .
when I was a welfare officer time and time again I saw communities solving problems them selves it’s the best way .

This is an example of why I thought rescue back up was a good idea.

The dog went to a new home on Saturday and by Monday the adopters didn't want him.

So today is one of those days where you wish you had a gun and it was legal to use it. Poor Percy went to his new home on Saturday after a four and a half hour journey from the north and now his new adopters want him removed. He was unsettled for a couple of days at his foster home but came round and a perfectly lovely boy, it does seem he wants the company of another dog. These people don't want to give him time to settle though and want him out and the only option for his poor old boy is a kennel. If anyone can foster him please let me know, he is in GU33 Hampshire area and would be preferable with other dogs but no cats

OFG!! I have had 5 dogs not from puppies, 3 from rescue centres, one from a lady who walked past my house with a KC she had been given 2 weeks previously and didn't want him and a 4 year old terrier that was going into rescue if no home found as it didn't get on with their GSD. They have all taken differing times to settle, non of which have been 2 days!!! People??

If this dog weighs under 10 kg with a short coat, I will take it? My little chap would love some company.
