Hi all,

I have an elderly Gordon setter who needs to be rugged up currently due to a combination of being clipped down and his arthritis. I'm looking to get a light weight fleece or quilted rug for indoors and something waterproof for outdoors.

I've tried the Rambo rugs and the velcro just doesn't cut it when he tears about in the undergrowth so they come off. He had an Equa-fleece one for indoors but some sod nicked it

I'd consider another one of these but they're rather pricey!

Are the Weatherbeeta or Mark Todd ones any good? Or any recommendations?

i had a weatherbeeta one for beau and it was grand (but he has outgrown it) the only down side was the strap under his belly was insufficient to hold it on his back and it frequently slipped round (much to my amusement and his annoyance) so I sewed elastic straps for between his legs (like straps on a horses rug) and then it stayed in place fine

He just out grew it!

but now Im looking for a new one too!

my weatherbeeta one was also quilted and waterproof so very good! and not massively expensive either!

I've got a Weatherbeeta rug for my Vizsla and she jumps and runs around it and it stays put so I'd recommend them, unlike others which she has lost in undergrowth!

We have this one Although the new little cocker Bomber is currently wearing a masta rug that I pinched from my folks JRT (he wriggles too much to be carried in a blanket when we're out and about and he hasn't had his jabs yet

)This also fits well and doesn't ruck or move on him

Mine had these on today in the snow - do up around the body and they have back leg straps as well so don't slip

OP, Henry has a Hotterdog fleece, which is made by the same people as Equafleece, but is cheaper because they come in a smaller range of sizes. It has been excellent.

You can't buy direct from Hotterdogs but they are sold by a few places - Henry's was ordered from a website called Muddy Paws which was a good site.

bossdog I love that Newmarket stripe one! I got a Coolex one for my dog the other day, it's like Thermatex but cheaper, and it's lovely. Fits really well, and although it's not waterproof, it's quite thick and certainly water resistant so my dog stays warm and dry.

We have a Hurtta dog coat, not cheap but well worth the money. It's the best coat we've found, it has rear leg straps and this great belly piece that seems to lock it in place (infact you can actually lock the buckle!) it also keeps his belly clean and warm. Just brilliant in this weather!

We got ours at www.fetchpetshop.co.uk

Thanks guys. I ended up with the Weatherbeeta Joules Landa as it was the only one available in 28" at the tack store and a Thermocell for indoors
