Ok. So i have decided to have a go at showing Emma at club shows. I am not a showing fanatic with horses but really enjoyed Sunday and felt it would have been nice to have had my dog there. It was very laid back tbh.

The next club show is in September and they are running a ringcraft class beforehand so definitely worth going to IMO. I have been practising standing her up and running her. She is beginning to walk well to heel on a loose lead but havent done running yet on a loose lead. The only odd thing i thought was that the dogs werent expected to run a triangle. Just up and back. The more experienced ones seemed to run up and back across the diagonal.

So! Just a couple of questions to start with!

Do I have to notify the breeder i am going to show her? Or is it etiquette to let them know. I feel i should as I said i wasnt going to when I bought her. They never said i couldnt and actually offered me another dog for less money when i said i wasnt going to show. I think they would be pleased i was going to show her as they are lovely people. Would it be ok to ring them and ask for advice? I think it helps sometimes to say" Look I am a numpty and dont want to mess up showing your dog/pony!"

Do I need to register a kennel name before i show her? And then show her as C. Emma May at..."whatever" or am i able to show her as C. Emma May. Will this matter if i decide to breed from her if she did well? Will anything she has won be carried over to the new name?

What benefits are there to Kennel club membership in terms of showing?

Is there any other etiquette things i need to know about?;):)

LOL! I am such a worrier!:D

Ringcraft is a good plan. Depends on the show but I would teach her to trot in a triangle as well as straight up and down (actually, I WOULDN'T, I would teach her to gait on the end of a long lead :p cause we're mental :p)

It's polite, yes.

Great idea, they can give you a lot of hints and tips.

You don't have to, we have one but we haven't used it since about 1983!
Last three just kept the names they came with and showed/trialled with them.

You can if you want, if you breed then you can use your own affix. Don't understand the second part of the question? She will have won what she will have won, no matter what her name is or what you change it to and the change needs to be applied for to the KC, not just tagged on the end.

We were never members of the KC.

Dress neat and tidy (not like us :p) choose a colour that will enhance the dog. Be courteous to the judge and don't be afraid to ask nicely why they came to the decision they did and what could be improved on your part, if anything.
Congratulate your opponents either way, if you come top, middle or bottom.
And remember, whatever happens, you're taking the best dog home.

You can only change a KC registered name by adding the owners registered affix to the end.

Once the dog has a stud book qualification, gained by winning at a certain level (I haven't checked for a while) the name cannot be changed.

Unless she does really well I dont think i will need to worry about studbook qualification. The big championship shows look far too scary for me and Emma-Squemma!!;):D:D If she was that good, then someone else would have to show her for me. I would hate it i think!:) Far too serious!:)

Any volunteers??? :D

Personally speaking no, my dog is my dog, no matter what silly German name he has :p there's nothing like having a dog you own, train and handle do well, your name will be on the catalogue beside hers, no matter what it is.

If you're going to be a big breeder or showing enthusiast, fine, but we're small scale, haven't bred a litter for over 20 years, so I don't see the point, some people show dogs bred by other people for years without establishing their own kennel name.
Plus our last bitch, who was shown once and was a complimentary entry in a few more was A Nancy of F, we bought her off the 'F' people and we didn't want to saddle her with three kennel names!

I am not going to be a big breeder. I honestly think i would have one litter max and hopefully keep a pup. I really should have had a litter from Hooch (both her parents went CC at crufts) and i do regret it but I just didnt have the contacts hence I need to get Emma out and about. Hooch was a special dog. But Emma is looking to be a better dog than Hooch in terms of her conformation and character in terms of showing. Hooch was a bit shy and not really suited to the ring.Think passive resistance!;) In front of the judge! :D I decided that slight shyness and a bit straight through the stifle were reasons not to breed.

Emma is naturally gregarious!:D
