13 year old dog been in rescue for 11 years as no one wants her. I expect now she has been in the media someone will come forward, but wouldn't it be a trauma for an aged dog like that to be rehomed after spending all her life in the same place ?

I think as long as she is settled in gently it will be lovely for her to spend her last years in a loving home. Dogs live so much in the moment, as long as she trusts her new owner she will probably relish the extra attention. Good on the kind people who have offered her a home.

Over here kennels are often no more than concrete enclosures, baking hot in summer and freezing in winter.underfunded and poorly supported I would think any old dog would be very relieved to leave behind the hardships, the incessant noise, and that awful hard concrete floor.I understand they will be institutionalised and it may need a lot of work to rehab them.wanda has summed up my feelings above, and I'm also glad for that dog that she has a real home to be special to someone before she passes on.

Personally I think it's fabulous that she's finally got her paws under someone's table and don't believe for one second the experience will be traumatic or, God forbid, cruel if handled correctly.

I've rehomed several elderly dogs over the years, that have only ever known one home all their life and none of them had any issues adjusting to their new life. Even the 16 year old that managed to live a wonderfully active life for another 4 years and the 13 year old that had lived in an outside toilet didn't take many days to realise the outside world was actually quite good!!

Good luck to her and her new family.

We have a TV programme over here about an animal trainer who rehomes dogs. Tjis week it featured a poor little chiwawa whom had spent his entire 12 years of his miserable life on a chain and pretty much neglected. Within one month the little dog was rehabbed ie socialised and house trained and adored in a new home. I think it really depends on the kennels and the care they get but I do believe every dog deserves a chance.

I thought that when I read about it in the paper. A bit like rehoming a hound from a hunt kennel.
