Hi All.
We have two girls who we have had for nearly six years that came to us as strays. When we first had them they weren't house trained at all and it took along time for them to "adapt" to not weeing in the house.
However since Christmas one of the girls has started weeing whenever they are left, even if only for a short while and even if she has had a wee before we leave. We put blankets out around the house for them to lie on, but it's a if she's got it into her head that it is ok for her to do it. We've even had her wee on the sleeping bag in front of us even though we'd sent her out and she wouldn't do anything.
Any ideas on how we resolve this? Her sister isn't doing it and they are in good health.
Many thanks.

Have you had her to the vet? That would be my first port of call to query something like a UTI.

It may also be stress if there was more activity than usual in the house over Christmas. Have you had any work done or has any furniture been rearranged? Visitors/new people etc?
Under stress, dogs revert to what they learned first/very base coping mechanisms like involuntary toileting.

After ruling out a medical issue I'd revert right back to toilet training her as if she was a puppy.

They've been to the vets and all is ok. Christmas was busy but usually us visiting people, as the dogs aren't great with people coming to the house. First day in a while when she hasn't left a wet one, so we'll keep an eye, but you're probably right we may have to go back to basics, unfortunately she's a bit bigger than the first time around so I can't carry her out for a wee.

Separation anxiety could be at play as well if she was going to the bathroom before you left and still went inside.
Anxiety will often show with toileting issues rather then noise or destruction.

It's worth seeing if you can get a cheapo wifi camera(i got one online for less then 20 dollars) to see if she's fretting as that needs different management to a dog who's just regressed in housetraining.

Glad she got the all clear for illness from the vets though. Usually I'd be saying uti is the big rule out!
