Hi all,

Me again, back to talk puppies!
Willow is going great! She’s really coming along nicely, just working on some socialising which means lots of coffee shops for me!

I’m just looking for some advise on the relationship between her and our older dog! They don’t leave each other alone, willow is always licking at the jack russells muzzle and rolling infront of her this is constant! Unless the jrt is on the sofa. Eventually after a lot of growling and teeth showing the jack Russell bites.
Willow doesn’t take this onboard and continues.

We don’t tell the jrt off as I feel she gives plenty of notice before biting! We try to distract willow and move her onto other things praise her for leaving the jrt but I’m not sure where to go?

We’re back to the trainer on the 17th so will be getting more help and you all helped massively with the toilet issue

i am no expert but my terrier could be a nuisance with my older dog and unlike yours she wont tell him off. i used to leave it a little while and then step in and tell him to back off. he now knows that when i say leave her, he has to leave her alone. if your youngster isnt reading your older dog its not fair to leave it till the older dog has to bite so i would step in and stop the younger one as soon as the older dog shows she is fed up.....this is only my opinion and may be the wrong thing to do, but it has worked with mine....

My older boy doesn't get tired of wrestling with our 6mo pup and never tells him off. But we as humans get rather tired of it, as it is noisy due to all the loud enthusiastic growling and we can't hear the telly.

We step in when we get sick of it. I grab a scruff each, pull them apart (gently but firmly!) and produce a high value toy for the youngster. Our pup is tenacious and will generally try again at which point he has two minutes in his cage to cool off. That's usually enough. We are there to maintain pack order so i don't allow the pup to dictate activities especially as he has no sense of proportion! Good luck, you'll crack it.

Hmmm I have this with a 3 year old lurcher who thinks she is a puppy, who wraps herself around the neck of my 5 year old greyhound! He is literally twice her size and acts like she isn’t there for most of the time (which is hilarious to watch I have to say!), very occasionally he will snap but mostly I get fed up and tell her to give it a rest. I don’t think it is fair on him otherwise, even though he doesn’t seem to notice! Being a 3 year old she will be told, if she was a pup I’d probably put her in her crate for a cool off period to reinforce the point

I'm going to start getting between them saying 'enough'

I started this morning so we will see! When they play they're fab together so i know the jack russell loves her and she'll wait at the gate until the Lab & my boyfriend get home from work.

But the constant growls all evening is really starting to drive me nuts!

Can they play outside? We ban noisy play in the house, if they want to rough and tumble, they can go out!

Its not them playing unfortunately, its the JRT going about her business (in her bed or drinking or walking room to room etc) being followed/tormented by the lab.

The lab just submits all the time, if the JRT is walking anywhere the lab is sliding along infront rolling over and licking her mouth

In that case, I would crate train the pup and give her 'quiet time' in there, so that the older dog gets some peace.

Thank you all!

She's crate trained already and we pop her in there to quieten down periodically. So will keep at it and fingers crossed its something she'll grow out of.

Ffee would lick incessantly at the other's mouths but she just isn't allowed to. I just say 'leave her alone' and she stops.
But...where is her recent pic?

She’s great! I know! Everyone that meets her comments on how big they are, we went looking for a petite athletic Labrador too 🤦🏼‍♀️😅
