Just wondering if you have someone to walk your dog or come in to visit your animals while at work or if you are unable to?

What services do you ask for and how much do you pay?

Thanks

We are lucky in that we have a dog obsessed neighbour who takes our three to her house and entertains them on the three days a month when our working hours coincide. We don't pay her but she gets big presents from time to time.

We still walk the dogs after they get back even though they run round after her GSD all day.

I have recently changed my working hours so my 3 dogs are left all day on Thursdays. A lady who runs a local dog training club also offers walking/visiting services, so she now comes to let them out and sit with them for half an hour at lunchtime. She has to travel about 6-7miles and 15 mins to our house and charges me £7. If I wanted them walking it would be £15.

Looks like OH's hours will also change after xmas so I may need her on Fridays too :(

I have used a dog walker a couple of times now, I only use her if OH is away for the whole day and I am working (I am out the house 6am - 9pm if I am working). I get the dog walker to take them out for 1 hour walk in the woods. Then we have neighbour who runs them up the horse field while checking my horses.

I have a brilliant DW who takes mine out at lunchtime. She will do more days if I need her and when I go on holiday, I pay a friend to dog/house sit and my DW comes in daily to walk all mine.

I know I am lucky with mine. I pay £10 per walk for the first dog, £8 for the second (no 3 won't go out for walks with her - hangover from having elbow displaysia) and £8 for a comfort break (around 30 mins playing with the dogs in the garden). She is properly insured, knows how to manage my 3 staffords and has never let me down. Not like previous dog walkers who would a: charge for days not done b: sometimes not turn up at all...

Our trainer's assistant does home boarding for just £15 a day or £100 per week which I think is criminally low for what he does, he stays in your home and exactly follows the usual daily routine with the dogs, has a degree in animal behaviour, APDT member, works part time for the RSPCA, CRB checked (he used to work with children with special needs for chrissakes, a more gentle/kind/patient man you could not ask for!).

Walking is £10 per hour for first dog, £5 per additional dog. A home visit to let out/toilet/play is the same price.

Sadly we are slightly too far away for him to walk for us but he's coming to stay here next year while we're away overnight at a wedding. :) £30 for two days and one night, it'd cost me more than that to have them banged up in kennels!

That is very cheap BC, would be interested to have his details in case we ever get the chance to go away as a family. Don't suppose he does horses too does he?;)

So anyone know of a decent one in Herts? Near Watford, preferably? It would be great to get them walked on the odd days when we're both working. Saying that, Zak needs super careful handling: I might need your man that BC knows! Special needs (speshul, that's Zak alright! :D) experience required for sure!

I had a baby six weeks ago, and our dog walker has been a godsend. My baby is a bit colicky, and not a huge napper, so my days are unpredictable. Right now our walker does a one-hour off-leash walk in the park, followed by a 45-minute leash walk in the afternoon. My dogs are happy and content, and until life settles into some kind of routine, I am beyond grateful to our walker!

Congrats on new baby P . How are the lovely Stella and Prince adapting to your new addition.

I didn't ask him about horses as my mum is going to sort B for me but I'm sure he's involved with the horses at the RSPCA centre. He's also very young and very dishy (but sadly engaged! :p). His email and number are on the contact page. :)

We have a speshul spangle in the agility group so he is well used to those CT. :p

BBH, Stella and Prince are just brilliant. They like to sniff my little boy's feet, hang out on the sofa beside him, and they always come and find me when baby starts crying. The perfect big brother and sister :)

Yes, monday, tuesday and thursday I have a dog walker come to do a 30min walk and feed. She charges £9 per 30min for 2 dogs. or £7 for one dog. An hour is £10 for one dog or £15 for 2. But as one of them is a puppy an hour is too much.

I dont use a walker but used to be one, I offered home boarding (my house or theirs), dog walking, puppy visits (for old/very young dogs not able to be walked) and play sessions for dogs that just needed a fuss and wee break.
The non-walking visits were 6.50 for 20 mins, walks were £8 for half an hour, £10 for an hour with discounts for 5 day bookings.
The vast majority of my clients used me every week day and unless money was very tight most plumped for an hours group walk.

I'm super lucky that a friend of mine takes Rocky three days a week when I am at work. We pay her £10 a day and for that she has him all day (picks him up and drops him off) and he plays with her dog and kids. He comes back knackered and loving!

She's starting up her own walking business now from it as she loves being out with the dogs and is busy arranging everything she needs for that.
