Does anyone know if setting up a business as a dog walker requires a licence.

I checked our local council and it just says home boarding. Which we were looking into. But I moved recently and it's been a rough few months.

I know I would need public and private liability insurance and the car insurance would be need to redone to make sure it includes traveling with other people's animal's.

Thank you.

Home boarding you definitely need a licence and vet checks etc.
I'm a dog walker and yes you need insurance. In terms of councils I wrote to mine and got an email back saying a licence wasn't needed and at least I have written proof if ever it is brought up. Also make sure you have walking contracts in place, safe for keys etc and in terms of police checks if you are self employed you can only get a basic disclosure check. Also depending on where you live and how much you spend on advertising it can take between 3 - 6 months for business to kick off. If you can befriend the local competition they may pass work on to you - it will probably be the most difficult and grumpy dogs but it will be a start.
