Dog with Stiffness - Advice needed!

Please Help!

I own 2 dogs both Collie X and both rescues. Lillie is approx 4 years old (well all my family think she is about 8) and has been really stiff for the past week getting a little worse I feel each day.

She has never had any health problems is up to date wioth worming, vaccs etc I have recently been made unemployed so they have been out 200% more than before so maybew it could be that she is aching like we do?

Its her hind legs she isn't limping but very stiff and now walking out fully.

Does anyone have any advice? I have started to put Cod Liver oil in her food to see if that will help but if she isn't any easier after a fews rest I will take her to the vets.

Any suggestions would be great

Evening Sheri...first, you may want to consult with a veterinarian and get hip x-rays to rule out any problems such as hip dysplasia, arthritis or anything like that.

Could she have been kicked or run over or hit by a car? Could she have slipped somewhere and fallen hard?

You can ask for rimadyl which is an anti-inflammatory for dogs, you have to be careful with the dosage as too much you can harm the dogs kidneys and liver but enough to take the pain away, the dog will rest better.

One thing, if you prefer to go the holistic route, ask around for a person who does massage. I get my Quarter Horse gelding massaged once a month and there has been such an improvement with his movement, gates and over all attitude.

If she gets the all clear from the vets and they think it may just be a touch of arthritis or something else not requiring medication I would suggest the pedigree joint chews. You can get them in the supermarket and a 7 pack is i think between 4-7 quid (depending on the weight of your dog). We started using these on our whippet x collie who is going to be 9 this year as he had started to look a bit stiff in his back legs and was getting a bit "clicky" in his joints. The difference is amazing- no more clicking etc.
