Hi
My dog has got the runs. He's a 15 year old lab x that last night didn't even try and wake us up (normally squeaks in the night if needs the loo) and had an accident in the dining room, living room and again in the upstairs bathroom.
Poor little mite didn't even want to go for a walk this morning and just stayed in his downstairs bed :(
I've made sure someone has been with him all day as he always looks so upset if he has an accident even though it's not his fault and can't help having an upset tummy.
Since his 2 accidents in the night he's since been in the garden 3 times for a poop and he was very gassy (loud farts) and straining to push out runny poop.
He hasn't been fed anything different to normal but I'm worried about my little man as he hasn't drunk much water.
We've taken all his food and any treats/biscuits that were lying around away and we were going to give his tummy a rest for 24hrs.
He's been sleeping allot today.
He's got a wet nose and seems a bit more perky this afternoon.
Do you think i should make him a cup of tea (his treat) so he's drinking something?
Tomorrow i was going to feed him chicken and rice as that's quite bland.
Am i doing the right thing or do you think i should take him to the vet?

I've got the same with Harley today, but the other end!

He was a little sick last night at midnight, then 4 times between 2.30-3.30 and then once again at 7am. Seems totally normal in himself, playing happily and running to the kitchen when he hears the fridge open!! Gave him 2 spoonfuls of chicken and rice at 12.30 and he chucked it back up at 1... poor boy.

Called my vets emergency line and they've told me to starve him for 24 hrs, then tiny amounts of chicken and rice tomorrow. If anything changes (wretches and nothing comes up or generally looks unwell, which at the moment he doesn't) call them back.

So you're probably doing the right thing. But you could call them for reassurance?

Thanks Galaxy23, He's perked up a bit now he can smell the chicken cooking for tomorrow and keeps mooching in to the kitchen to check if it's done...Who needs a cooker timer when you have a chicken mad dog!!!
I'm glad he isn't looking so miserable but I'm still not going to give him anything until tomorrow night, just in case?!!?
If he's still got the runs in the morning i think I'll give the vets a quick call.
I'll be sleeping on the sofa with him tonight...i just hope he doesn't nick all the duvet again!!

I hope Harley is feeling better soon...
