Sorry for poor spelling of D de B, but what would you expect of this cross. I advised my friend to steer well clear as she already has a mental Spaniel x Patterdale (which is so rude it is unreal). I personally have not been a fan of husky's, I am sure they are fine with experienced people but the ones I have had experience of have been bought by people who can't be bothered to walk or train them.
This dog is a second dog to keep the mad one company - so thoughts, health probs etc?

I would expect it to be butt-ugly, for a start.

Huskies have no pressing breed-specific health problems, would want hips and eyes tested as routine anyway, no idea about the DDB. They do however have lots of mental ishoos, are hard to train obedience-wise and require silly amounts of exercise. I love mine to death but I would not recommend them to anybody.

Where on earth has the dog come from? I'd be worried it was a very misguided attempt at breeding a fighting dog.

AAAAGGGGHHHH

**runs out of thread screaming**

Google the breed characteristics of each, imagine the good points coming out in the pup, imagine the bad. Dogs which are perfect crosses of two breeds, are out there, but the exception rather than the rule, IMO.

Google what these breeds where initially designed and bred to do - then wonder why the hell someone might think that it was a good idea to breed them together.

If it's a whoopsie, fair enough, if it was an intentional breeding, I would not be funding and putting money in the pockets of people who think that such a cross would be a good idea.

This will be a large, weighbearing dog (I am not assuming either parent was hip scored :() and while it will be a cute pup (ALL PUPS ARE CUTE) you will have no idea what it will look like when it gets older.

Believe me it is true - I thought the Spaniel x Patterdale was bad enough a cross. Have only seen the pics of it on facebook and it does look cute but then as you all say all puppies look cute. Apparently her friend had one of the litter too and it was a very big litter, puppy is a bit thin looking but I am sure it will soon grow to be a monster. This 'friend' has a habit of getting pets on a whim without really thinking about the implications. We both do a similar job but I wouldn't even get a greyhound in our position due to the amount of time we spend at work. Plus I certainly won't be offering to dog sit two mentalist dogs when she wants to go away!
I really hope that it ends up ok, but as soon as she said what the puppy was I was thinking 'oh dear'.

Regardless of the cross (but a token  anyway!) maybe you could advise her she would be best off sorting out her current dog before she get's him/her a companion. If the patt x springer is rude and lacking in manners I wouldn't add a puppy into the mix no matter what the breeding until it was back on the right track :o Getting another dog to keep the mad one company is an iffy idea from the start, esp if the newcomer is a puppy imo :o

Thanks Pix, that is exactly I advised her to do, and a lot of other 'two dog' friends told her the same and that was before we knew what she was going to get as a second dog. Ho hum, I am really lonely living on my own but am responsible enough to know that getting a dog just so I don't feel lonely is a bad idea given how much time I am not at home.

As CC says that mix would do a lot of damage if riled. Would also do a lot of damage if it inherits the husky ability to destroy households when left on it's own! Given the current dog is by all accounts a bit of an arse, I'd reckon she'd see their combined behaviour rapidly deteriorate as opposed to the elder dog improving.

Still, some people only hear what they want to hear, and doubtless the puppy is oh-so-cute at the moment :( The best you can do is try to point out the possible problems and hope that at least some of it sinks in.

I personally would stay well clear of that mix.

Is this them? (googles DdeB x husky :D)

Only 6weeks :(

Can't even imagine what they are going to look like when they're older! Look like rottie x atm! Combined with current dog could quickly end up with 2 out of control dogs (one of whom will most likely pretty darn big!)

Good luck convincing her out of it!

ooo i met some of them at the weekend. Fabulously fun dogs.
And a lady running a team of Australian shepherds :D

The most impressive non-husky team I have seen so far is a pair of red setters:

:D

You know what I mean about the Alaskan huskies though, more of a type than a breed and I don't think there's many over here.

That's them! Oh well, she's got it now :-(

Oh dear, fingers crossed it doesn't end up like the Springer x then or she's going to have real problems. They're very cute (aren't they all) but they're probably going to be huge and am I right in thinking Mastiffs are prone to hip problems? And Huskys can be a bit sharp - or is that Akitas? And I don't mean all of them before I get martyred lol

Look like rotts as well to me,unless they got mated with husky, then a rottie got there after,an a mix in puppys of the two.Not a good idea to get a pup if the other dog badley behaved esp such a strong mix of dogs.

P.s can someone post where to get one of the sled wheeled things(sulky?)want to train 2 of my rotts to use one.

If you mean sharp as in unpredictable/snappy/aggressive, you're probably thinking of a bad akita - a well exercised husky is as friendly a dog as you could wish for. :)

I specify well exercised because a bored one will be a nutcase (though still more likely to jump all over you and lick you to death than to bite you :p).

The term you want to search for is 'rig', or perhaps a scooter - try Snowpaw or Culpeppers. :) Also worth searching for 'dog carting' with rotts.

Yea that's what I meant by sharp. I stand corrected :D I did say I wasn't sure :p I knew it was one of them. Mind you saying that I still agree it's to do largely with up bringing not solely the dog.

ETA: agree though look more Rottie ish
