Dogg wants entry into GSD club please & introductions

Okay, so felt bit bad, I just come walking into the all about dogs without so much of a hello! ;) hehe, I have loitered a bit in here, but I wuv my doggies, so thought we had best do some introductions as instructed by CaveCanem :)

This is Dogg (the ex police doggy) and I think he came from Battersea Dogs home in the first place, before he joined the police. He is only 3 and such a sweetheart! The first week we had him, he was slightly over friendly, and both me an mum got a bitten hand off him, as he was keen to get to the ball! oh dear! he is learning some personal space now though!

Apparently he is called Dogg, as he wouldnt answer to anything else. When we take him out and about and shout 'Dogg' people must think we are so unimaginative! lol

My other gorgeous doggie is Ben, we have had him for years now, we got him from Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary and he is the sweetest loving gorgeous little doggie! Love him!!

Hello, another newcomer here, love Dogg he is gorgeous (and the name is fab,hah!)
Have to give Ben an extra big hello since he's from my work :D Hope he isnt as batty as my ex Bleak boy, he looks like butter wouldnt melt with those big innocent eyes.

For my sins, I'm not a member of the GSD Mafia........:rolleyes: More a terrierist kinda person, meself! ;) Borders, to be precise. Still, we can't all be perfect! ;);):D

Gotta say, though, I'm loving both your boys! Bear, my Border, does a similar thing with his towel.........Drags it round the house like Linus from Peanuts! :eek: Just glad he can't suck his thumb as well! :cool::D
 
MrVelvet - they do retire but are usually kept by their handler, younger "failed" dogs regularly get rehomed too. Not sure how you'd go about acquiring one, always presumed it was word of mouth really. We have a supposed retired police dog in currently (aged 14!) and he is utterly fantastic.

ahh thanks for that.. I thought the younger ones probably would! I wasnt sure about the retired ones with rehabilitating etc! my mum has a cross breed with GSD in him (hes a rescue.. not endorsing irresponsible breeding!!) and hes fab, hes about 13/14ish too
 
Thats awful that you have a 14 year old dog in Pendlehog, I thought they were either retired with the handler or rehomed but always remained in the ownership of the force. I think they are usually retired at around 8 years old, wonder where this lad has been the past few years. :(
 
I have no idea but I will tell you he was truly a MESS when he arrived, completely bald down his back and with a growth on his back end. The ex police tag is only what the person that brought him in claimed, I cant confirm it, but either way he is a lovely old 'person' who doesnt deserve to be where he is.
 
That is sad PH, all our boys keep their dogs for life mostly, I know one dog is being retrained for sport by a nephew and another fella who has put off emigrating until his old fella passes on!!!

ETA Ex-police dogs should not be hard to spot, as mentioned, ball drive and play/prey/fight should be very high, very fast in all they do.
Most forces breed their own dogs using working lines because a lot of the working drive has been bred out of the pet/show lines.
Donated dogs are becoming more scarce.

Yeah, Dogg lived with his handler, butonce he had failed his training, the policeman wanted him to have a really nice home, with lots of space, which is what we've got! We got him through our local kennels, as the guy who runs it knows us quite well as he's only up the road. The police had contacted him to see if he knew anyone, so yeah guess it was by word of mouth. He such a big ol' softie though, i can see why he failed! i dont think he would harm a fly!
