What would you have in it?

Just back from a lovely few days at Loch Lomond, but whilst we were there one of the dogs picked up a tick, queue the question 'How do you get it out' as I was fairly certain burning them out probably isn't the correct way anymore (text the dog trainer, who said dental floss and vodka).
What else should be taken next time (didn't have tweezers either and then we were worried there had been a bard left in (there hadn't but you never know!!!))

In the house I have vitamin tablets, Malaseb and Paxcutol shampoo, Sudocrem, Thornit powder, Epiotic and several other ear washes/drops, eye drops, Frontline, anti-histamines and Savlon. I usually carry antibacterial/alcohol gel and hand wipes, tweezers and scissors anyway. And a corkscrew :p

This thread has reminded me - we held an endurance test (12 miles off a bike, three rest stops) a few months ago and the judge found that one of the females had got a little tear on one of her pads during the final rest stop/inspection. The only thing I had on me was Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, whacked a few blobs on her pad and she did the final four miles with no bother at all!
I LOVE that stuff :p

I always use my fingernails to get ticks out, and I haven't left a head in yet :D

The above posts have made me realise how inadequate my doggie first aid kit is. I have epi-otic ear cleaning stuff, vetwrap, melolin dressings, scissors, purple spray... and that's it

Very interesting tip about the wind-eaze - I will get some of that in.

ticks: if they are tiny then i leave them in for a few days until they are big enough to get hold of, then you simply twist them anti clockwise and they come off.

we get hundreds up here... so they dont fuss me! :p

i remember de-ticking my friends dog when we were kids... big bearded collie... the ticks then got chucked into the raeburn...."POP" (x 200 odd!) ha ha ha! :o

other than that i have no first aid kit... salt water/ a bit of hibiscrub! :o

What's the corkscrew for (or is that a really silly question:) )

Oh and I forgot the aloe vera, the copious amount of aloe vera products.
And bio-oil, for me. I just hit myself up the face with a slip lead :o

I don't need Bio-oil I need a walking stick, managed to fall twice in 5min on the last day when it had been raining/hailstone/sleet, the 2nd time I fell I actually then proceeded to slide down the hill on my ass (at which point the dogs decided they didn't know me at all)

Embarrasingly, I don't have a *home* first aid kit (I have 2 for the horse, one for the horse lorry and one at the yard), and two at my shop (a human one and a doggy one).

My shop kit includes open weave bandage, cotton wrap, various tapes and vet wraps, scissors, savlon, super glue (!), a bulby thing that looks like a baster (can't remember what it's called), oral syringes, sterile pipettes of eyewash, foil blanket, thermometer, gloves, disposal bags (for haz mat), quick stop, surg spirits, rubbing alcohol, ear powder/thornit, irriclens, aloe products, haemostadts, cotton wool....

A just blown out match on the botty of a tick usually has the desired effect. At home for Dex i have vet wrap- cotton wool- ear drops- poultice (forever getting stuff in paws!)- savlon- syringes- and thats about it.

I can't believe I forgot the one vital piece of kit :

An unused TEA BAG! Any guesses as to what it's used for (and no, not for drinking)

Teabag to stop bleeding on lips or tongue!

Sanitary towels make excellent wound dressings.
White pepper on a bandage deters chewing.

My first aid kit mirrors yours Pucci but I also have Hibiscrub, Cut n heal, Rehydration mix and Wind-eze as I board as well as groom.

Best to just remove ticks with your fingers anticlockwise or a gadjet, burning, whisky, vaseline etc are not advised as it causes the tick to spew up and increasing any risk of Lymes. We get a fair amount here, a girl on my course at college had to give up the course due to Lymes, we also had a dog with it! I FREAKEDDDDDDD out a few mths back when I found a tick imbeded in my leg lol.... phewww never got the ring of death!

Wooohoo, you won a trip to....the fridge (for your correct answer about the tea bag!) :D
