My mother is a victim of advertising and has been feeding the dogs eukanuba because of how 'amazing' it is. I've googled it and seen so much bad press about it!! Can't persuade her to feed raw so does anyone have any recommendations for a good quality dry food (preferably that's stocked in most pet shops). Thanks!

May I recommend Applaws dry food ? It is simply human grade meat and vegetables and is quite by far one of the best dry foods around. My dog is very well on it, gleaming coat and skin and full of energy.

Skinners field & trial duck & rice or salmon & rice. Half the price and quality is equivalent to JWB or Burns.
Euk gives a glossy coat because it is high in fat.

Ii depends on your budget. Applaws, my dog didn't keep weight on with it, though it is a great food. Orijen is another and burns. if they re a bit beyond budget then Arden Grange (the lamb is better quality that the chicken and a little more expensive) try looking at www.whichdogfood.co.uk

We spend about 16 quid a month on a bag. Thanks for that website I'll get looking!

Wainwrights, Pets at Home's own brand food, and Fishmongers are both pretty good, the latter has a very high fish content for the price though. Won't be £16 a month. Skinners (you can get it from P@H) and Autarky and Burgess Supadog fish ranges are not bad. Arden Grange also OK.

I would never spend money on food that is heavily advertised on TV or in the mainstream media, because that's what the money is being spent on - promotion! Dogs in space suits and top breeders recommend it, blah blah blah!

first i had my rescue on the really cheap dry food the old owners were feeding, but it was rubbish (£15 a bag roughly) he is now on Skinners field and trail, about £30 a bag, and looks so much better and weight has gone on. medium range cost wise, worth a bit of extra money

My big dog. ( gsd x ) gets wainwrights biscuits and trays of meat and looks fantastic on it. It would probably be more than £16 a month, depending on size on dog. It probably costs me about £35 a month with a 15kg sack lasting a good two months or more, I think! Good to buy when they have a promotion on, stock up!

I have all my dogs on Barking Heads kibble - http://www.barkingheads.co.uk/
I also add fresh chicken, mackerel or Salmon to it. They also get carrots, sweet potato's, apple, pears and blueberries as treats. I used to feed Applaws but was very unhappy when I found out their chicken came from Thailand.
