2 questions in one!

My 3 dogs have all stopped eating at the same time? They have JWB dried food with a little (dessert spoonful) Butchers Tripe or Chappie to make a gravy. They have always leapt on it but suddenly they have just stopped eating. They pick at it, take bits and then spit them out and don't touch it even if I leave it down. They go between the 3 bowls tasting each others but all 3 bowls remain half eaten.

Could it be that they've just changed to formulation of the JWB? I bought a new bag as I thought maybe it had gone off but they still won't eat it. Maybe it's the hotter weather?

I was going to change their diet anyway but can't find good solid instructions on changing over to a natural diet....I was going to do a semi BARF but for 3 days the dogs just buried their chicken wings in the garden!

I know we all have different ideas about diet etc but does anyone do a raw/cooked meat/veg and rice diet for their dogs? I can't find the right proportions anywhere. I went onto 2 websites and one said feed raw meat 100-150gms per 10 kilos and the other said 400gms! Should you add oil and vitamins?

I'd just take it away and try later on, they'll eat when they're hungry!

I can't help with the BARF type of diet but ours have tripe with Chudleys working crunch just to bulk it out a bit and we've never had any problems getting them to eat, they all hold the right weight and we don't suffer sensitive tums, something prone to the HWV.

Could be the food is off, hot weather or change of formula in JWB I feed my dog JWB but still on the first bag!!! so can't say if it had changed.

I also feed him nature diet which is cooked meal (of vegs, meat, rice etc) comes in 380g packs and costs about 67-70 pence a packet. I give him (JRT) half of Naturediet at evenings and JWB for breakfast.

If you look at the ingredients you will see that since Pedigree bought JWB out they have changed the ingredients slightly. Instead of using meat they now use animal derivatives, I work in a pet shop and a LOT of dogs have gone off this food since this happened. You could try Nutro if you can get it, That's what most of my JWB customers have gone onto now. Not too sure about BARF I'm afraid.

Really! That might explain it. Bloody marvelous isn't it........they go off their food because something like that has changed but they'll fight to the death if they find a decomposing rabbit!

I really wanted to prepare their meals myself to cut down on cost but what is Nutro? It's not something I've heard of.

I can see the sense in that but I'd rather give them something they really enjoy not something they just eat because there's no option.

I have fed JWB for years, and have never looked at the ingredients since I first started using it! I started buying it on vet recommendation as it was a relatively pure food; it sounds as if that is no longer the case. Blooming marvellous! Thanks for the info, I shall change her onto something else after this sack.

I went to our local pet food warehouse earlier to try and find an alternative and was telling the owner about the JWB changes etc and how my dogs wouldn't eat it and a woman standing nearby said' I don't believe it! I'm here doing exactly the same thing!' Her dog hasn't eaten the JWB properly for weeks so we both picked up a sack of Burns to try. The owner said it was getting more and more popular so maybe other people are having the same problems with JWB. What on earth have they done to it and how do they justify charging more?

I have had my dog on JWB due to recommendations on this forum. Although I haven't had a problem with it, I intended to change to Burns when I bought the next lot as they claim to source their meat humanely. Reading this thread has just backed up my thoughts.

I have heard burns is the best dried food...

My puppy went right off jwb... so I changed to natural (sort of BARF)

I can recommend a dog nuritionist who could do you a diet sheet as well - if you like? Is prob best to get advice, so you know they are getting all the right nutrients.

I add olive oil and also sea kelp tablets - no other supplements. But will add glucosamine when he gets a bit older as that is supposed to be good for prevention of arthiritis and can be given from a young age.

Thanks widget..I'd like the name of the nutritionist. Was it you who said they do on for a donation to a doggie charity? My private message box is sorted so you can send it through there if you'de rather x

Still says not acepting private messages?

Yeah is same person. Not sure if would be for charity donation or small fee - either way would be reasonable.

Anyway - her website is here: http://www.kizkiznobite.co.uk/

all contact details on it. Doesn't mention the nutrition bit, but she does that too - ask KJFIT as well as I think she has a sheet from her too

- you get lots of background nutritional info and a dog specific diet sheet.

The sheet gives you loads of info and would give confidence to take on the BARF diet head on knowing you are covering all dietry requirements!!!
