Dogs attacked my horse on a hack

Happened a few times (had a gold retriever JUMP onto my 13hh pony's bum) because we hack in some very public places, and to be honest the best thing is to get your horse used to dogs. I worry more about the dogs getting kicked/trampled. I wish people would train their pets properly before taking them out in huge open spaces, but it doesn't seem be happening any time soon!

Has anyone else found that often the yelling flapping dog owner freaks the horse out more than the actual dog? :p

As a lifelong dog owner, I am again appalled that any dog owner will allow their dogs to behave like this. The dogs were obviously not under control and could have caused a very serious, even potentially fatal, outcome.

Please report the incident.

Just to say, I have been the dog owner who's dog got away and chased some horses. He didn't attack, and when they stopped he remembered what his name was and came back, no excuse obviously! I was mortified and apologised repeatedly, which saved me from the rollicking I deserved from the riders, especially as one came off :o
