I have been offered a JR free as the people who own him don't have time for him and they have moved to a new house that isn't suitable for a dog. I don't know these people, friend of a friend kind of thing. The dog is about 1 year old, well behaved, lively, likes playing etc. Have been told he is perfectly happy and healthy.

Does this sound ok? I have not had a dog for a few years, my last one when I was a kid was given to us by an old couple we knew. Not really sure whether I should trust that it is genuine or not, I guess the only way is to go and see the dog.

Are there any particular things I should ask/check.

Thanks!!

Some people do jsut get rid for the most stupid reason, not always something up, I would go meet them and ask if u can take him for a little walk, check his general manners out, on leash and around other dogs, give him a few commands, sit, paw e,t,c just spend a little time with him see what his general behaviour is like, check their home out for any tell tale destruction, p!ss and sh!t stains

just messing, but they may well be having probs house training, they are not the easier breed to toilet train(but u can work on that)

Ask if he is vaxed and has any health probs and which vets they use?

Thanks for your reply. We went to have a look. When we got there they told us they are moving to a bigger house but with a tiny garden. They were selling all their kids garden play things so it was obivous they weren't lying! We took him for a walk and he was really good. No p!ss and sh!t stains, no sign of chewing. They haven't had time to train him - 5 kids! But did manage to find time to teach him to walk around on his back legs?? He has had his jabbs and has been wormed as he should be. So...we bought him home!

He is fantastic, it is like he has always been here, we took him to the pet shop so he could choose his own bed (he used to sleep on a sheet on the floor). He slept all night in his own bed. He did have one little accident but it was right by the door so he tried his best! He has met the horses and went to the Fernie team chase today! He has been fine with all other dogs and with my house rabbits as well!

We are really pleased with him. Will take him to the vets soon to get a check up anyway.

Thanks again!
