Dogs frightened by shouting

Previously Rols and Lil haven't been bothered by raised voices, but today Roly has run away upstairs to hide in the bed because OH is shouting (he's watching the rugby :rolleyes:)

I feel really sorry for them, what can I do to make them feel better? I did lock them in another room with the radio on, but they didn't like that and cried :( They've been out for a nice walk beforehand and this is a fairly new phenomenon.

Any suggestions, apart from a ball gag???;)
 
Make sure they have an escape route and leave them to it. Henry used to get upset when I watched the rugby, but he's a hardened fan now :D

Book your OH in to have his vocal cords removed! ;) Rugby's enjoyable to watch but not worth frightening your dog over it.:D I've been having major works done on the house and what with the tuneless 'singing' of the builders and noises resembling the Blitz, my BT is now hyper sensitive to any sharp, loud noise. I would ignore your dogs reactions and as Spudlet says, allow him means of escape. Personally, I find a mans vocal overreaction to a sporting event highly irritating myself.:)

I agree its highly annoying, it left me huffing and puffing through the whole thing, having to go find my two terriers.

I will try leaving them to it next time or I might just push the OH out the door with a few notes to go play with his friends at the pub :D
 
In my house we had complete role reversal. I jumped up and down and squeaked while watching the rugby, and the OH cooked dinner:D He's more of an F1 fan!

Henry was not in the least bit bothered, he's used to the emotional turmoil that occurs whenever England play;)
 
I have two overly sensitive staffies and they too get very upset with my enthusuam for the rugby! Probably made worse by the fact that mine is not a household with raised voices...so I do rein it!
 
My girl will always hide under the sofa when there are any raised voices even if its just us calling to each other while in different rooms. She will even hide if she hears tension in our voices - it stops us arguing though as her hiding brings us back!! Don't know why she does it, she hasn't even really been shouted at (except for trying to eat chickens). She comes back out wagging her tail though so don't really understand it
