Dogs in beds?

I was VERY anti-dogs in bed as our cat used to give me asthma, not a problem with a border terrier! It was actually OH’s suggestion (he who wasn’t that keen!!!) and puppy now sleeps in our bed on nights when we don’t have work the next day, he’s very warm and cuddly (dog and OH!) and if he needs the loo in the middle of the night he wakes us up by fidgeting (just the dog, OH can take himself) and I take him outside. If he’s in our bed he tends to sleep longer in the morning too (bedroom darker than the kitchen?).

Last night it was a little cold, so I may have bent the truth a teeny tiny bit and told OH that the poor puppy was shivering in his bed (he wasn’t) and lo and behold I was allowed a toasty warm little bed warmer!

I give it about a month before the dog is spending most of the nights in our bed, I know I shouldn’t but he’s so cuddly!
 
Before we got Ronnie, OH and I stated definitely that absolutely, no way, would the dog sleep on the bed. The very first night, Ronniedog didn't sleep on the bed. But, erm, huh-hum, every single night since then he's shared the bed with us!

He does have his own bed, right beside ours, and tbh he splits his nights between his own bed and ours, as he fancies, but I do love my Ronnie cuddles just before I go to sleep each night!
 
It can turn into a problem if and when you really don't want the dog on the bed and the dog plays up accordingly. I occasionally let my young dog lie on my bed if I am doing something in the room ('up and have a bounce!') but only by invitation and off means off. I don't know if I would let him sleep on my bed as he is a big dog and it is a small bed.
The older dog has been up there the odd time but there would be literally no room for us both!!!

I live alone so my boys sleep on the bed with me - Sweep always has done and is a cuddly bear:D and Max was allowed to by his previous owners and due to none of my doors shutting in the cottage shutting them out isn't an option - Max does also occupy the spare bed when it suits him:D
 
WE don't have the dog on the bed. Our daughter does!!

When said daughter was younger it was fine but, now she's off in Paris nearly every weekend, I've found myself with a bed warmer. I say 'myself' because most of the time I'm on my own and it's actually nice to have the company.

The puppy, on the other hand, will NOT be allowed onto the bed and he knows it!

CaveCanum, we have the same rule: You're allowed if we say it's OK. They're not allowed on the furniture unless invited and have a human cushion.
 
Mine have always been allowed on furniture by invitation, with the exception of the terrier I had as a child/teen who always slept in the bed or on furniture.
 
Millie and Jimmy used to sleep in my bed with me. Millie would go under the quilt, turn round and lie down really close to me and sleep with her head on the pillow :rolleyes: but when OH and I moved in together they weren't and still aren't allowed upstairs let alone in the bed.
 
He’s only allowed upstairs if we allow him, there is a stair gate and even if you leave it open he won’t go further up the stairs than the gate. :D

If we keep it just to the odd night and at invite only that should be ok!

OH is a terror for lifting him on the sofa when he jumps up, I always make him sit first then pick him up if he wants to sit on it with us.
 
My whippets used to lie in the bed, but my OH (shockingly):o is allergic to dogs:eek: and recently he has gotten alot worse, so our room is now dog free! and I have to say I love it (no hair). The whippets and the cavi are allowed on the settee, but none of the others, unless im taking cute rescue pics and I use the chair as a prop:D
My rotti snuggles on my mattress at work on night shift, it's like cuddling into a human she is so huge.

Hmm that's helpful with all those dogs you have lol.

My OH just thinks it's unhygienic and *ahem* off putting :p

ETA I'd be quite happy to hug the dog
 
yes, in the bed... prefer them in the bed than on top of the duvet because they kind of trap you in and your unable to move. when they are in, you can keep your feet warm with your own furry hot water bottle that never cools down.
 
We actually bought a super king size bed when OH moved in as my dogs always slept with me when I lived alone and fortunately he didnt mind (too much). The IWS always curls up right at the bottom, Chloe sleeps on my pillow or under the duvet if shes cold and Alf just fits in where he can, When the pups were small they would wake us if they needed a wee during the night and they were clean almost from day 1. I know its not everyones cup of tea but both OH and me would miss our little bed warmers!
 
mine was on my bed from 6 weeks old (her mother battered her so we took her way too early)....

She was on my bed from 6 weeks to 5 years old and at 4 developed severe separation anxiety (to me) as both our other dogs passed away and she became very very clingy to me...

so we stopped her sleeping on my bed, on the sofa etc and now shes fine :)


she does jump on when we go to bed, while i go in the bathroom to clean my teeth :D but soon as im back in i have a cuddle and say "night night" she jumps off the bed and into her own (on the landing)....

i have a babygate accross my door so she cannot sneak in when we arnt there


so no - no bedtime sleeps except a cuddle before bed as from experience (long term) it creates problems :)
 
Mine are allowed on furniture, currently writing this with a three JRT blanket, but never upstairs, they know they are not allowed. However when we go on holiday in the caravan, the one who hasn't been left with the daughter sleeps between us and she's really good, lets us have a bit of a lie in too
 
Our lurcher has her bed in our room which she does sleep in but often does a little tour and visits our sons' bedrooms too. Older son has double bed next to radiator which is obviously a big attraction! She was very disappointed when younger son got a high sleeper bed. She doesn't get on our bed until my husband has got up in the morning!
 
Mine started off not being allowed upstairs- but I am a lazy so and so, and the only way to get a lie in past 7.30 on a weekend was to let him up in the morning, this then turned into coming to bed at night- he does sometimes take himself off downstairs again though if he gets too hot.
 
Our 2 flatcoats sleep with us on our kingsize bed - but they will always get off if told to. I think the youngest one was cold last night, he got up between our pillows and was practically lying on my head! He normally lies across the bottom of the bed against the footboard, and the other one lies in the same direction as us, between us - plenty of room for everybody :D They do also have beds on the floor, and will sleep on them for part of the night.

I can't actually remember how the older one was first allowed on the bed, he used to sleep on the landing. OH never let the previous dogs on the bed, but has obviously softened over time and let 'his' puppy up, then 'my' puppy had to follow suit! Ths is why we can't have a 3rd, we'd need a bigger bed :D
 
Technically they are not allowed but in reality we have an elaborate system. OH gets up at 7am, walks them for 15 minutes and then leaves for work. I don't get up until 8am so go back to bed with a cup of tea for 45 minutes.

The second OH shuts the door to leave for work there is the tiska-tiska of claws on the wooden stairs and two chins are leant on the bed, awaiting permission to come up. We have 45 minutes of snuggling and then they jump off when requested. :) On one occasion OH came back five minutes later because he forgot his wallet, you've never seen dogs move so fast. :p

The stair gate is closed when we're out so they can't access upstairs anyway. They're allowed on the sofas whenever (both are covered in vetbed for their comfort :o).

They're not allowed to sleep on the bed with us because of the ridiculous amount of hair they shed and because they take up so much room...

I would like to say mine don't but in reality I do share my bed with three staffords...all have their own place. One at my feet,and one on other side of me....
 
No ours aren't. I've never had dogs allowed on beds even as a child, but then we always had big dogs and live on a farm, so they are usually wet and dirty! I'm also a light sleeper and it would drive me mad. I had a small-medium sized dog that slept on my bed when I lived in a bedsit. She always started off on her own bed when I went to sleep, but was always behind my knees when I woke up!

Nowadays we allow the beds on the bed on Sundays - we have a groom for the horses on Sundays, hubby nips down and feeds/lets out dogs and cats then comes back to bed. A couple of hours later the dogs come up and are allowed on the beds. They love Sundays!

They are only allowed on the settees when invited, although yellow dog seems to ignore it and accidentally fall on sometimes!

Those who have dogs sleeping on the bed and are in a live in relationship - doesn't it ruin your lovelife??:D
 
Ozzie sleeps on my bed and when I'm working or away he has managed to worm his way into the sitters beds too. He is a typical JRT and VERY good at training humans!
 
Only by special dispensation when I am poorly, for company. As soon as the bloke gets home, he's turfed off again. Otherwise, he's not allowed upstairs at all (although fiendish hound is getting close to figuring out the babygate - if it's not locked shut he's upstairs in a second!)
 
NO way. The bedrooms are the only mutt free sanctuary. They are allowed on the furniture though. The massive boy takes up a three seater. If he was allowed on the bed there'd be no room for us (Bouvier des Flandres). I wouldn't really fancy it either especially with all the critters they pick up from time to time; like fleas and ticks. Not to mention the unmentionables they roll in.
 
Haha … our 9 week old rottie was kitchen bound (until he could hold his toilet actions more than anything) when he was little but by the age of about 5 months he was full time resident on the bedroom floor – when we go to bed he’s told to get his huge ass onto the floor and off the bed but somehow every night he creeps ever so gently onto the bed and by morning we have a massive Rottweiler (like the size of a small child) wedged in between us legs akimbo and snoring with head on the pillow!
