Took my bullmastiff girl to the beach yesterday and she was too hot. She didn't enjoy the heat one bit. We were only there for about an hour for a gentle stroll, she didn't want to play or even go in the sea.

Now I'm wondering what to do for her walks in the summer with the dog walker.

She currently is walked about 11 - 12midday ish and this has worked really well but she isn't going to enjoy this in the heat of the summer. I clearly can't ask the walker to arrive at 6am or 8pm when I could walk her myself anyway but wondered what others with walkers do.

I don't want to lose my walker as she's great for creche days and i'll need her in the winter. Do you think it would be rude to ask for ' shady walks' somewhere with a high density of trees etc

I think you are worrying a bit too much. During the average british summer we have some hot days and some warm days and lots of overcast days. I am sure your dog walker will have the common sense to walk your dog carefully on the really hot days. Just make sure you tell her your dog does not cope with the heat well, so make the walks shorter on a hot day.

What BigRed said, my OH is a dog walker and he has a few walk routes, in the rain/cooler days it's out in the open mostly, in the fields, on the hot days he takes them down the river via the woods where the whole walk is shaded until you come to the water at this part they all jump in for a swim:D
The long coated akitas are not water dogs and are always on lead so they get a park walk on cooler days and woodland walk on hot days (in the shade) have a word with your walker if you are worried.
