Well done Cayla what a fantastic bunch of achievements for the year....look forward to seeing the next post. I never realised your little Rufus (who is just adorable) was born under such distressing circumstances in your house. I thought he was a handed in job as a wee lad. He is cool!
I do not blame your mum for keeping that beautiful lurcher! How lush is he!!! I would have snapped him up from you had you put him in a rehoming post!

Have you noticed Temsik, she never puts the gorgeous sighthounds in rehoming posts, she keeps them all
Personally I've always heard that it is difficult to raise single litter puppies because they don't have other puppies to interact with, but that is my only argument against doing what Cayla is doing and I doubt she has any lack of dogs for a single puppy to interact with.
To some degree I can understand your point (though I don't agree about it), why save old and broken ones but not puppies with their whole life in front of them. But personally I have some difficulties with rescues complaining about breeders continuing to breed, when they themselves have puppies born in their rescues.
Actually I admire Cayla for what she does, I'm sure it isn't a light hearted decision but she takes the responsibility others have failed to take.

Well done on rehoming all of the dogs from this and the other thread. Good work!
It susprises me just how many pure bred dogs have come through your doors in 2009. I always imagined, that for the most part, people who had paid a significant sum for their animals would be more likely to keep hold of them. In my naivety I thought that most rescues would be crossbreeds that those of a lower income might be more inclined to buy, simply because they are cheap and "having a pup seemed a good idea at the time".
Obviously I realise pure breeds do go into rescue, but you have far more pedigrees than cross breeds in these two posts.
I wonder why that is? Are there more temperament issues with pedigrees than cross breeds?

You would be suprised how many people who have adopted
from us who have repeated those exact words patches......I think most pedigrees are a victim of their own beauty, esp we fing more so wit huskys, mals, akita all look very lovely on the other end of joe blogs lead, when they are purchased for their£500-£1000 and the issues of their needs not being met and them not looking as cutesy pie as they did when they where babay fluffies they are discarded of, when an owner has an issue the money they pais becomes a forgotten past time.
Same with the other pedigrees, msot people love the look of a pedigree and may would steer away from the x breeds, until an issue occurs....thing is they blame the dog and replace it with a different breed of cute puppy in a matter of weeks, would it suprise u to know we have taken 3 different pedigrees from the same owner when so called issues occured
Money means nothing it's gone and spent and all puppies look cute so people will get the money no matter what SIMPLES
I totally understand the reasoning behind putting the puppies to sleep but I could never be the one that made the call or was there when it was done, it would break my heart
I would happily be there when the irresponsible breeders were PTS though.

To be honest some I dont put on here, as it's sort of makes me feel bad that people live so far away and my mam is very stubborn when it comes to rehoming the dogs so far esp the ones that have had alot of rehab, those 2 lurchers(flint) the brother which I kept
my shaggy candy coloured lad, u prob never knew that either
they where kept in a kennel for 9 months with no ineraction, we took them from another rescue as they where struggling to rehab them, they where feral pretty much and if we have dogs with issues even though we send them out with complete understanding of their back ground not all dogs behave the same in different hands(hope u get me there) anyhow if we rehome far away and a problem occurs we srt of panic as to how to get the dog back asap, as some people panick and say they want out now
which may mean a 4-5 hour journey which we will make to retrieve a dog but it may not be as soon as we like and this panics us, as we want our dog back asap b4 they tried to off load it else where.
Not that im saying u lot are like that....but computers and communicating through them are alien to my mam.....maybe I should bring her to the AAD dog meet.
Ask ann-jen on here who has changed her name to letters I can not remember

THANKYOU very much for that Happyhorse for that comment.....it effects u in ways u will never imagine puppies and more so with the older dogs
AND ditto your comment........if only human pts where legal and as easy as dogs, I would be armed with my syringes
Ah Flint thats the one I saw in your snowy posts!
I know exactly what you mean Cayla, I have a lurcher here that has a very similar story to those two actually. I used to (still do on occasion) rescue lurchers and she is one that I kept/ she stayed!...6 yrs ago!! She simply was not rehomable and has become the old matriach of the family here instead. I don't even like rehoming pups far away unless I KNOW the person they are going home with, for exactly those reasons. I can perfectly understand why you wouldn't like to rehome a tricky rescue case so far away.
Well done Cayla for all that you do . Never an easy thing to do but I understand and support your reasoning .
FL - I'm still waiting for Shaun , a DDB x . I thought he was gorgoeus ((SP) . I'm on my second glass of wine as I babysat my grandson last night and couldn't let myself get pissed as a fart . Two glasses and I'm unsure how to spell dog !!
) I would have loved to rehome Shaun but Cayla's scary and thinks I'm an idiot so I never persued it .
I think you should grow-up (unless your going to put yourself out there and rescue day in day out as CALA does).
Just stop and think for a minute how many resources a puppy takes both in feed, worming, jabs and time, not to mention valuable space for an absolute minimum of 2 months. Additionally don't forget that most bitches (when rescued) are not physically able to feed a whole litter.
I think CALA has more than admirably explained their reasons, you don't have to agree, but take your gripes elsewhere theis post is a celebration of the fantastic job CALA has done rehabilitating and rehome this year.
It's heartbreaking that these decisions have to be made, but they do. It is the cold, hard, reality of life.
Cayla, I hope the rewards of seeing these guys happy in their new homes sometimes makes up for the heartache it all brings you too. Although what you do feels like a drop in the ocean to you, together people such as you really do make a difference.
Putting an animal to sleep is such a horrible and difficult decision, I think the person who has to carry it through and do the euthanising should decide which dogs should be PTS and which should live. It's hard enough as it is without someone on the outside expressing a different opinion...
