Dogs on Beds

Mine come upto bed but they are staffies so hair is not really an issue. I do put an easy wash throw on top of the bed to protect the covers. They don't move but do go on full guard alert at times (2.30 am on Weds) but I have to respect that that is their "job" so duly went downstairs to check everything out (or rather, sent the dogs downstairs first then followed!)

No way, yuk yuk yuk!!

I quite liked having a dog on my bed when I was a kid, don't really like having a dog in the house let alone upstairs these days. Outside in a kennel is where they should be!

Sometimes, it depends, but I always wash the sheets the next day :) I detest cats on kitchen worktops etc, and I go mad if my dogs try anything like that :o

I have whippets.....they HAVE to sleep under the duvet......
i also have whippets and do NOT have them in bed with me..thats my space otherwise dogs think they can wonder and go where ever they like

one of them doesnt do under duvet..the other one would given the chance
i dont like dogs going upstairs..they do try to sneak up though with my younger son encouraging them tut tut
my two sleep in their crate at nite..and happy to do so..with a blanket over them!

Not regularly as he's just too big and hairy and tends to sprawl (he's a border collie) but he does sleep in the bedroom in his own bed.

Sometimes at the weekend if we want to sleep in we will let him get on the bed - he starts off small and curled up and gradually spreads himself out!!

My Dalmatian sleeps in my bed too, but he prefers to be under the duvet.

In fact all my Dalmatians over the years have slept either in or on my bed, like the Whippets they believe they have too or die!!!!

Occaisionally I let the English Bull Terrier up but she gets so excited it doesn't make for a restful night. She either burrows under the duvet like a worm on speed or does a bully run round the bed. Unlike the spotty she doesn't understand about cooling off on the floor when she gets too hot and stays under the duvet panting until forcibly evicted.

My house is very cold with no heating so I have been very grateful to the pair of them over the last couple of winters. I read somewhere that there is a strong possibility we are going to keep having these arctic winters so I am wondering whether I ought to get a third dog to stay warm!!!!

Noooo way they do have beds in my bedroom next to the radiator and sleep up stairs when Im on my own. Not only are they very big but very noisy. This morning about 3am Darcy decided Diesel hadnt washd behind his ears so proceeded to give them a thorough going over with lots of slurps and sucking noises which seemed to go on for hours. Also if I have to go to the loo in the night they greet me when I get out of bed and when I come back so dont really get a lot of sleep.

I NEVER thought I'd allow the dog in bed. But last year when I had a bad fall and was in bed for 2 weeks it just kinda started.

Now Harley come up to bed for cuddles at night when we go to bed to watch the tele. When it's time to sleep though we just say "in your bed" and he hops up and goes downstairs to his own bed. He can't stay while we sleep though as he stretched out between us and nearly pushes out out of the bed!!! It has sooooooo nearly happened!

Then in the morning he hears OH alarm and comes up, jump in for cuddle for 5 mins then get up with OH for quick walk and brekkie then comes back to bed for mummy cuddles until I decide to get up! ;) ;) ;) The benefit to this is OH is never late for work anymore as he can't sleep through his alarm! ha ha!

We do have a throw that he has to lay on though so the dog hairs don't actually go on our bedding.

Isabel and Elliot both sleep on the bed, if i get up to go to the toilet in the night, Isabel will get under the duvet with me when i get back to bed :D

the terriers do and so does Flora now! She used to sleep next to the bed but I let her start sleeping with me when OH left as she used to get in when he left for work early morning. Tilly has her own bedroom in this house she used to sleep in the kitchen but for obvious reason (like its got the fridge in!) shes no longer allowed!

Yes, all of ours sleep in bed with my OH and me although they all stay on top of it, none like to get in but they do have their favourite spots. They have their own beds in the room too and they will rotate where they sleep throughout the night. We have a dog blanket that covers our bed sheets, covers, etc.

I'm traveling a lot for work these days spending 2-3 nights a week in a hotel. I miss not having the furry ones in bed with me although the amount of room I have all to myself is quite nice :).

I tried having Boots sleep in the bed with me once or twice....it was way two dangerous though. He decided it was most comfy to sleep with his head resting across my neck....that was grand till I opened my mouth in my sleep and woke up choking on his long curly spangley ear!!!!!!!!

I would never get on to, or in to my dog's bed, and would expect the same restraint from them!!

That said, with very young puppies, the human bed is the best place, in the world. In time, you can wean them from the bed, as their mother weaned them! It can be a very useful "humanising" tool, but mostly for the unmarried, I've found!!

Okaaaay, I'm going to prove that I'm weirder than you originally thought. I frequently sit in or on my dog's bed with them. And after a particularly wild party at mine, I found a friend sleeping in it...However, it's a decent size (about 4 foot wide, and 2 1/2 foot deep and is about 6 inches off the floor) with a great big cushion, and is up against the kitchen radiator. Many a winter's night after coming in from horse chores I sat there defrosting with dogs covering both flanks and one on the lap. So what's good for the goose and all that, share and share alike :)

Nope. Ruby is a black lab (who seems to constantly shed, despite regular sessions with a Furminator) and my bedding is white so not a good mix. She sleeps happily in her cage in the kitchen. Most weekend she is invited up to look out of the window (and cuddles at the side of the bed!) whilst we enjoy a leisurely cuppa in bed but she wouldn't dream of going upstairs without being told to.

Not at all! The dogs all get off when we are having a private moment because they are a bit annoyed with us when we disturb them! Other than that, the only thing I look out for is bad behaviour, i.e. any dog can be asked to move or get off at any time and must do so immediately otherwise they lose bed priviledges and there is no fighting (between the dogs) on the bed.

My whippet x used to always sleep in the bed, under duvet by my feet. Makes a fantastic foot warmer in winter :-)

Since she's got old, she tends to either sleep at top of bed between me and OH or on her bed in our bedroom xxx

My Collie is on our bed...we even had to buy a Super King size to accommodate us all :)

My Hubby has to work nights a few times a month and i feel safer knowing my dog is with me...not that he would do anything to anyone, apart from lick them and pester them to play ball with him but in my mind i feel safer.

He starts off on our bed but sometimes gets a bit hot and jumps in to his own which is next to ours.

The only time it's a nuisance is when we go to stay at other peoples houses if they don't allow dogs upstairs (completely understand) as OH sleeps downstairs with him :)
