Dogs on leads

I'm surprised that any of you think it is acceptable for your dogs to jump up and dirty someone elses' clothes. I'd be furious if ours did that.

OP I'm sorry your dog has been damaged in this way when you were acting in a responsible way...... Frankly I'd take a stick out with me and use it if a dog came within hitting distance (not at all sure of the legalities though??????)..... they just should not be coming this close to you. Nor should they approach walkers without dogs...... we don't love them ALL

Far to many dogs are loose and out of control.

I regret now that I didn't play along with him chatting me up to get his phone number. I wonder what he'd say if he knew the outcome. I suspect he'd say, 'Dogs will be dogs,' and laugh about it.

Sorry to hear of the outcome of the incident - hope your dog recovers fully in after surgery.

I have a very simple rule - if someone is coming towards me & puts their dog on the lead, i put mine on too - if they don't put their dogs on, i presume they must be okay & leave mine off too. It's not rock science.

Have to say my biggest pet hate re lead etiquette is seeing owners with dogs off leash alongside roads. I don't care how well behaved they think their dog is, if a cat/rabbit/deer jumps out of a hedge in front of it, the natural & immediate instinct to chase could well have the dog under a car within seconds. Happened to someone i know & their poor (obedient) lab paid the ulitmate price.
