Can I take my puppy on a train?! It would be an hour journey, then changing at Bham New Street (v. busy station so I'd carry him around there!), then about another 20 min train.

If it's Ok to take him, do I have to buy him a ticket/do anything special?

Check with the train company, but generally I think most of them are ok as long as the dog stays out of trouble and isn't on the seats:) You would need to carry him up and down any escalators though.

We've taken both of ours on trains and buses without a problem. Just make sure that you have your dog under control and out of the way. Some companies do charge a small fee per dog :D

I take mine (4 of them) on south west trains with no problems, they just lie down and then get up to remind me when we get to the stop . The lady that cleans the train is scared of them though, she waits until we get to station and walks along the platform to get past :p.

My mum took our old bitch to Crufts on the train. She fell asleep and woke up later to see the bitch was draped over the knees of two old ladies who were sat wide eyed and poker straight, terrified to move!!!

She did it a few times on ferries as well, choosing pensioners as comfy cushions! They must have reminded her of my Nan....

I have taken both my dogs on the train before and they haven't charged for them, all they asked me was to keep them tucked away and off the seats (which they wouldn't do anyway :P )
I think the same rules apply as in cars...I wouldn't do a long journey with pooches in very hot weather, but otherwise they're fine
Have fun! :)

Ditto all the above, just make sure you have a pee break beforehand!

I walk a collie who loves getting the train - I've taken him between Haymarket and Waverley before (literally two minutes) and he's been beside himself with excitement :p You should see him on a bus though...oh my I've never seen a happier dog! He wags his tail so hard I'm sure one day it'll come off... :o
