So, lurchers are sighthounds I thought? They have amazing eyesight and chase their quarry by seeing the slightest movement.....

Except yesterday when Millie lurcher came racing up behind me at full speed on the dog walk....she went out to squeeze through the gap between Marty greyhound and I..... failed to notice that Marty was on the lead, and did a smart 180 degree somersault!!!

Bless her she was fine, she landed in some leaf mulch so she was just surprised, but I do wonder about her eyesight 😂 if I’d filmed it, it would have definitely been a ‘you’ve been framed’ moment 😂
 
Our pointy hound's eyesight is fine. It's her habit of craning her neck around and staring at things far, far behind her that's eventually going to cause a collision. She's picked it up from the collie, whose singular focus is such that on one hilarious occasion (whilst he was busy watching someone on the other side of the road) he walked into a lamppost. ETA that our third dog is blind, and is therefore the only one of them who pays attention to where he's going.
 
My last lurcher did not always 'see' fences, she once catapulted herself through the air on a strand of plane wire fencing whilst after a rabbit-she screamed, I thought she had done serious damage but just spectacular bruising.
Another time she ran into a tree at speed after a deer after misjudging exactly where the tree was- she ruptured her cruciate in spectacular fashion that day and went into shock.
They have eyes sometimes just not brains.....

I’ve had this from a greyhound but not yet a lurcher - I get the impression that it is only a matter of time!

I’m not sure why I’m surprised really. Millie also (apparently ) ran into a tree a few weeks ago, cue expensive trip to the vets to have tree removed from her leg & stitches 🙄🙄

Sorry in retrospect I’m not sure it was appropriate to ‘like’ this - it was done in the sense of “oh yes I recognise that!” As
I’m sure I’ve said before on here, Millie is the first dog I’ve had where common sense bears absolutely no part in any of her decision making - it has been a learning curve!

Tbf, I've done the walk into a lamppost trick....
