"Dogs

Strictly no dogs. Be kind to your dog, leave it at home as dogs, except assistance dogs, are not permitted on the Showground or in the car parks and should not be left in cars. Visitors with dogs will not be able to enter the Show. The RSPCA carries out regular welfare checks of car parks. "

So, do they really mean it?? Can you not take dogs to the GYS?
If so it's just as well I spotted it as would have been annoyed to have ddriven there and not been allowed in.
 
No sorry they are not allowed only the hunting dogs that are to be shown or are part of stands.......

Can't really say I blame them. It's a show which people pay to spectate at. unfortunately a few ruin this by alloowing their dogs to run loose or mess everywhere, which isnt fair on those who want to enjoy their day out. You also sometimes get idiots that leave their dogs in cars or take dogs which REALLY would rather be at home. Big crowds can be frightening for some dogs who end up being dragged round trade stalls, sat at the side of rings in boiling heat and trampled on.
 
If you go in a car you will not be allowed to park in the car parks if the dog is in the car. There is a very strict no dogs on the show ground rule and no dogs left in cars. Has been the case for many years.

Sadly its been like that for years. Competitors have to leave them in their lorries. I think it also had something to do with disease? Some people are so slack with their dogs though and sadly they spoil it for everyone else!!!

Agree with dogs not being kept in cars. Haven't been to the GYS for many, many years, so am pleased I caught it on their website. A 2 hr drive to be turned away would be annoying.

It's interesting that they do this. Is it discrimination?!
 
I am not surprised. I think it's a good idea *waits to be shot down in flames*. I have seen so many (irresponsible) people at various horsey events, who seem to think it their God given right to let their dog(s) roam wherever they wish. On occasion, this has caused mayhem and has even resulted in serious injury, to the dog(s) or horse/rider.

I agree with Charlie ^^. I am a dog lover but there is a time and a place......................
 
They have done it for as long as I can remember & think alot more shows should actually do it personally. Would save a lot of hassle for competitors. I wounder how long before Badders do it.

There is no way you could walk round the stands with a dog on a lead. It is bad enough trying to get through by yourself.

Hounds are aloud in for the shows on Tue & Wed (plus ours will be there to parade on Thur)
Plus the gundogs & sheep dogs for the demos are alound on the site but that is it.

They are very strict and check the cars as the enter the car park. I took my 2 a couple of years ago as they were on the PAT stand and got pulled at the entrance to the car park. And had to show all our passes to be let in. It is very busy so I can totally understand why they don't want dogs in.
 
I think it's a good idea. There's so much risk of them getting loose and causing accidents with so much livestock about. And it's a pain trying to struggle past them, and owners leaving muck everywhere. Oh and there's always fights between dogs, or dogs not being given water, being left in the car etc. I don't see the issue with leaving them at home when you go to horse shows/county shows - it's just a day afterall!

Oh i didnt mean 'its just a day' as in leaving yours dogs for a day is ok for them, i mean it in the sense that theres plenty of other opportunities to go walking with your dogs so why do people want to take them to the show so much. If you get my drift!

I think it's a good idea for shows like that - it is rather different than 3 day events as there is less space and it is very crowded walking around - dogs would hate it!

Plus, with all the sheep and other livestock there it would be rather irresponsible having dogs about as well.

They are checking cars and you certainly will not be allowed in if you have a dog in your car. They are thinking of the dog safety at the end of the day and they don't want dogs being left in cars.

As for not leaving your dog at home all day - surely it's not that hard to get someone to come in an walk them or even just pop them out. If you know you are going to GYS it's just a case of being organised and sorting a dog-sitter before you go.
 
I think it's a good idea, and very responsible of the show organisers. I hope the organisers of 3 day events hurry up and do the same.
 
Well, most people have to work for a living and can't take their dogs into work....as you can't leave your dog from 7am to 5pm, presumably you have never had to hold down a full time job? For most people, it really will not be an issue, as they will already have arrangements for their dog for when they are at work and I think it is much kinder on the dogs.

Can any one remember the little dog at i think it was Burghley last year that went chasing after a competitor during his round.!
TBH for such busy show I wouldnt want take mine (shes a dane and has a turning circle of the titanic) as it is too much for her anyway.
I do agree it is a sore point weather you should take them or not, Hey admin I feel a new poll coming on!!!
 
I hate seeing dogs paraded round at the big County shows like fashion accessories. They get very crowded and it can't be very nice for the dogs. I tripped over one once and on another occasion I saw a dog steal a burger from someone's hand as it was passing!

I love dogs and I'm guilty of taking my own dog in the past, but over the last few years I've seen an increase in the number of spectators dragging their exotic dogs around as though that was the main function of them being there.

Sorry, rant over. I'm not even sure whether I agree that there be a total ban, I just think some people should think whether their dog can cope with it. The GYS is more like a crowded town than an agricultural show.
 
just been at Bolesworth for the days of show, working...I am delighted that GYS has taken this stand....have worked at many shows and game fairs, it is NOT fair to take your dog, no matter what you think, they do not enjoy it....and for those poor dogs left in cars during the day, well, what do you think happens, if it is at Game Fairs in Northern Ireland, the show director Albert Titterington has stewards going round car parks, checking for dogs, after we had two die many years ago, there are not questions asked, Albert goes out breaks windows, rescues dogs, and the person responsible can take issue afterwards, what would you do..... If your dog has plenty of water, is house trained, what on earth is wrong with leaving safe at home, in its basket!
