Dogs you just don't like?

I could do a really long list but every single breed I dislike is down to irresponsible ownership and basically stereotyping all owners of those breeds; I'm sure there are well behaved cocker spaniels but my experiences suggest otherwise.
Some (brachy breeds, German shepherds, doodles, the majority of merles, doodles) I dislike on principle because they are exaggerated fashion accessories and often also cruel.

My job is why I dislike so many!!

In fairness, in my job I see the worst of dogs. I get bitten, snarled at, I clean up pee, poo, regularly get willy juice on my arm, remove eye bogeys, shave whole poos off dogs bums (yep, really), get humped, deal with badly trained dogs, deal with hyperactive dogs… the list goes on.
But I honestly love every single one who comes through the door. Some of my absolute favourites are the grumps who try to bite me 🤣

Hmm, there’s not many I don’t like. Shar Peis don’t do it for me. Too spikey in more ways than 1. Not too much of a fan of the other aloof breeds like livestock guardians.
Next up I’ll probably get another toy. I’d like another ‘proper’ dog be that a spaniel, lab or Shepard, but once my horse habit has calmed down.
Doodles and the owners of them I find hard. This extends to poochons and their relatives too!

I don't understand how people can live with brachy dogs, the sound of them struggling to breathe makes me feel breathless and chlaustrophobic! My cousin has a frenchie and puts videos of her in the group chat snoring with 'how cute'... no, it's giving me active anxiety hearing it and I feel like I want to claw my throat out. Shame as I love pugs, not usually the type of dog I go for as a bit thick and hand bag like and riddled with issues but I find them incredibly endearing, always have done

Agree about hairy faced dogs but what don't you get about BCs? They are the ultimate dog - intelligent, athletic, fast, easy to train, live to please, live long lives, smart looking, fluffy enough to be cuddly but not collect too much dirt - what's not to like?
I don't like the 'eye' and intense, slinky, weird, stalky or obsessive behaviours. For every nice useful one there's a nutjob not wired right. Given the dog breed I cut my teeth on I am also deeply suspicious of a dog that lives only to please! On a 100% shallow note I also don't want a dog that looks like 90% of other dogs in the ring (to the point that friends struggle to pick out their b/w or tri collie in event photos; same for black and liver cockers). I enjoy the challenge of being competitive with different breeds to the norm.

I have had two of the breeds most frequently mentioned so far and am not out to change anyone's mind, they are indeed arseholes, just with some redeeming features that I personally value.

Worked at vets surgery for 26 years so quite a lot on the not like list but. Any breed can be nice so I’m guessing we’re mainly talking about aesthetics.
Cockerpoos which I always want to call cockerdoodle doos.
They have square blocky ugly heads!
Don’t really want anything muscular looking and beefy. Under 25kgs.
Also not a massive fan of yorkies as their coats are often greasy feeling. Wearied always weed on the floor in the vets too so they’re out! Before I got old always fancied a munsterlander. Too old for a big powerful dog now.

None of my choices were about aesthetics.

Any dog that humans have turned into a travesty of the species. eg deformed skulls with no nose and popping out eyes, dwarfism gene, overlong backs, conformation so bad the dog cannot run. Examples of a breed that have had another breed crossed in just so puppy farmers can breed silly colours, such as weim/labs,vizla/lab,,and dont get me started on lethal genes such as merle.
Anything crossed with a poodle, agree with a previous poster, like poodles, love cockers, but heaven save me from the resulting cross.

Agree with the above

I think i only really like my own dog 🤩

I think everyone thinks they have the best dog and they’re right, it’s the best dog for them.

Akitas, GDSs and XLs worry me, although one was play bowing at G this evening and seemed lovely.

I find brachycephalic dogs extremely sad. Why choose a dog that visibly isn’t fit for function? I think I’d find it difficult if a friend were to have one, unless it was a rescue.

Don’t think I’d want a small dog, although I keep obsessing over Yorkshire terriers. 🤷‍♀️

I don’t understand the attraction of certain breeds and find them boring-beagles, labradors (sorry!), greyhounds (double sorry, my best friend’s is lovely but so boring!)

I don't think this should be a thread to try and change anyone's mind, I love GSDs but a lot of them are a-holes and I can understand why others don't like them.
My favourite dog followed closely by Jack Russells, my first GS came from a rescue, he was the most lovely dog…He actually came on honeymoon with us and made friends everywhere we went with all sorts of people, including hotel receptionists and managers! This was 55 years ago and I have always had at least one since then, all rescue rehome dogs all delightful….I only wish I was capable of having another one, but I am not, so my beloved rescue JR does a very good impersonation….

Conversely pretty much all of my favourite breeds of gundogs 😂
It would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing.

I love spaniels and also collies and GSD’s. Also a big fan of my big dogs 😂 not ones that drool though!

I find labs inoffensive but a bit dull. I did meet a very nice working-line one recently though that changed my opinion a bit. It’s the sloppy bumbling fat pet ones that do nothing for me.

If we are taking aesthetics, long nails and anything with long clear or white nails gives me the massive ick, which covers a lot of breeds. Not the dog's fault I know.
My daughter got the serious Ick last week when she realised my dogs claw was bleeding! I had a look and it was fine but it’s clear and you can see the quick. I had thought it was quite nice as it’s easier to trim 😬🤣

Old English Sheepdogs. I worked in a boarding kennels years ago when the Dulux dog had made them trendy, and I don't think I've met a genuinely good tempered one. And of course the coat maintenance.

As an owner of a very drivey herdy dog, I can confirm that it is annoying as it looks when they get a hit of the creepy weirdos. At least ours snaps out of it easily enough...the collies you meet where it is essentially their entire personality just feel exhausting to be around.

I love a proper heinz 57 dog, completely individual and normally healthy.
On the flip side I wouldn't pick any of the latest designer dogs, dachshunds (I read 50% now need back surgery), cockapoos, any brachycephalic breeds etc. I've never met a dog friendly French bulldog.

I wouldn't have a gsd either.

My last bite was an Old English. A proper snap it was! Really hurt. She’s lovely but she’s a bit temperamental!
I adore them as a breed but I couldn’t have one coz of the coat maintenance.

I have to admit feeling a bit 😱 at those who don’t like Labradors, then I remind myself I’ve sworn never again and think, yeah ok fair enough!

Not liking JRT’s that’s a bit weird 🤣

I think they are a dog which is at a very high risk of being owned by inexperienced people or kept in inappropriate environments. Because of their famously good nature, I think the get the raw end of the deal a lot, and bored, badly trained, under stimulated, fat Labradors are not great dogs.

A proper working lab or one kept by diligent owners is a fantastic animal to meet.

The more replies I'm reading the more breeds I'm agreeing with, just hadn't thought of!

A have two secret, not dislikes but not a fan of breeds that I almost feel guilty about!
Springers- I think because Mr P's mum had one when we were first together and it was the least trained maddest dog I've ever met and after once offering to look after him for a day I found I had him for weekends on a regular basis. I couldnt even let him in the garden without being dragged round on a lead.

Collies- Just a bit too insense! Mine (inherited as an older dog) was also quite yappy. I did love her but wouldn't go buy one. That said I also know some lovely ones.

My mother had a Springer when I was a kid, I will never own one. At least collies do as they're told and walk nicely on a lead (even if they sulk).
