Dogs you just don't like?

The patterdales we see are bonkers! Always seem to be a mistake. They wanted a small dog for the family at a reasonable price point not realising quite what they were getting. 6 months in they inevitably realise that the working parents being kept kennelled was for everyone’s safety not cruelty! Some of the Lakeland’s are quite spicey too, but can’t jump at you as high or as fast…!

Which makes for an unenviable decision if a bitch has a large litter.
Working homes are dwindling in all disciplines and this is why a lot of traits are being bred out.
I know in my own breed, people love the 'look' of the dogs but won't fulfill their needs. So you either get dogs neglected/abandoned/PTS or you get a beautiful couch potato.

There are a lot of obviously working type GSDs in rescue now, probably people with the "straight back" mind set who overlook the rest of the dog. Someone in our local WhatsApp recently posted a picture of their new pup, a cracking looking dark sable of czech lines. I commented they were brave ! They are starting one to ones with a PD handler soon, which doesn't exactly give me confidence having seen the displays this force put on, but I suppose it's a start.

Yes, I get a lot of people looking for Czech stuff purely because of looks and when I try to suggest something more sporty, they say it 'isn't big enough/looks a bit small', not realising that it isn't supposed to be a giant breed. A lot of the smart Czech breeders have been folding in west German working lines which makes for a more agile, healthy, sporty (as in, more prey that defence/civil mindset) dog. Oversized and 'straight back' does not = healthier, quite the opposite, but I am looking at the stats/results, not how the dog looks on the outside.
The 'old patrol dog/DDR/the real dogs before the fall of the Iron Curtain' is just a sales pitch, like any other pet dog being sold because it is a pretty colour.

Although I didn't include XL bullies in my dislikes I'm not a fan. But I did meet a lovely one at man trailing last week. When I saw him in the back of the car with his muzzle on I thought "s**t I don't fancy hiding for him" . We were trailing on private land so he had his muzzle removed and was just a big softy, who trailed well. His owner said she bought him as an American bully but as he grew had her suspicions so registered him to be safe. I certainly wouldn't have said he was an American bully but he didn't have the XL head and mean eye, so maybe a cross . It was nice to see one with a responsible owner , she said it costs her a fortune hiring secure fields so he can have time off lead without his muzzle, and obviously has done a lot of training with him.

I did seek probably the sportiest interpretation that can still be considered vaguely within the GSD breed standard, and boy did I get it (*hollow laugh* 🫠)

She's exactly 60cm as ordered, and 29kg at present, which did have my vet tsking at me last week. But yeah, not a giant by any interpretation. Amazed you still see adverts BIG BONED, STRAIGHT BACK

I really don't like bull/mastif breeds, including staffys. or brachycephalic breeds, never seen one that i liked the look of personally

I'm a working breed fan though, lots of those aren't peoples cups of tea, i have a very clever springer

Anything bully - including staffy and frenchie
Fat headed labradors (worse again if body also fat but thats a human rather than a breeding issue) - sporty ones are fine
Corgis - just can't warm to them
Basically all the small yappy hairy ones
Dachshunds

My mother had a Springer when I was a kid, I will never own one. At least collies do as they're told and walk nicely on a lead (even if they sulk).
6 years old and 5 months old loose lead walking (I admit they are a little ahead of me 😂😂).

This young springer is next level mischievous though!

I was laughing to my partner that we are in our springer era but will probably need to move onto labs or retrievers once we are a bit older 😂

You and I couldn't be more opposite. Anything bull breeds or small hairy terrier and I'm there. I've known 5 corgis all amazing. Can't Aide working dogs and as for GSD's I've never met a nice one unfortunately. One attacked my tiny terrier when she was 4 months old and the vile Women didn't even apologies when she appeared from the top of the hill.

I don't like the 'eye' and intense, slinky, weird, stalky or obsessive behaviours. For every nice useful one there's a nutjob not wired right. Given the dog breed I cut my teeth on I am also deeply suspicious of a dog that lives only to please! On a 100% shallow note I also don't want a dog that looks like 90% of other dogs in the ring (to the point that friends struggle to pick out their b/w or tri collie in event photos; same for black and liver cockers). I enjoy the challenge of being competitive with different breeds to the norm.

I have had two of the breeds most frequently mentioned so far and am not out to change anyone's mind, they are indeed arseholes, just with some redeeming features that I personally value.

😂

There's breeds I don't like based on the dogs I've met (Cockerpoos and JRTs), then there's breeds I've got nothing against they just aren't aesthetically my cup of tea (bull breeds), there's breeds I don't like because we've made them such unhealthy dogs and wouldn't want to support that by having one (KCC, brachycephalic), then there's dogs that I like but wouldn't have as I'm not the right owner for them ( worky, high energy ones like spaniels, huskys, malinois etc).
