dogs4us! is this for real ? ?

They are:( There are protests outside these stores from time to time, I used to go on Dogpages and they have threads publicising these.

Just ridiculous:(

ETA oh, I see you have a protest link already! :o

yes they do.

You are lookng at £550+ for a german shep or lab which can not be used for showing ect because they don't have any decent paper work.

Last time i was in the manchester one, the pups where being microchipped and all where bleeding ect from where it had been done, and where just being left in their pens.

they have been trading for a long time

reduclous prices too for a pup - non KC reg ones at that too....

one of my friends almost bought a dog from them and i told her some horror stories so went to someone else instead - admitidly not best breeder but at least they wernt fuling the trade of dogs4us!

jesus that is awful... what is happening in this country, i thought these types of shops were outlawed in this country years ago... how sad... can just see most of these pups ending up in re-homing centres :(

Thats so sad!
When we lived in the states and we used to go to the mall I loved going to see the puppies, at the time I didn't realise how horrible it is for them to be in that sort of shop.

But I swear puppies are not allowed to be sold like that here?

They used to be known as Mayfield kennels. Years ago there were loads of campaigns against them but they seem to keep going, they used to buy up litters of pups and then dump them all in one pen together, and if you bought a pup you just got a random pedigree, no guarantee it actually belonged to the pup in question , allegedly!;)

Unfortunately pups are allowed to be sold from shops, even Harrods sells them! There are regualar protests around the country. Most of the pups come from puppy farms so have had a very bad start.

I visited there a few years ago, i don't think it was called Dogs4us then. Sadly it was very busy (mainly families) & unlike me most were there to buy. I found it quite sad that once with a pup tucked under their arm a fair few then went to shop for the essentials so wasn't even planned purchase. I remember there being a heavily pregnant women with a couple of toddlers umming & ahhing over a collie pup while a shop worker waited for a decision to open the pen and thinking the poor pup would probably be rehomed fairly swiftly like countless other collies. I guess people maybe think because it looks clean/smart its therefore ok or maybe they just don't care as long as its convenient & easy.
It was a depressing experience, i've not seen any puppy's in the pet shops locally but there were some kittens in one.

Its terrible, absolutely horrible. But unfortunately there are hundreds upon thousands of people in this country who are completely ignorant to basic dog care and what a puppy needs from birth and enjoy staring at them in pet shop windows :(

personally i took the 3 puppies we have left out for a long walk yesterday with the pack and thinking about the way they were then to what the poor pups in places like this are kept it really is enough to break your heart.

It says all the puppies are covered by a 6 month guarantee??!!?? Mad!

I bet people think thats wonderful too, because the type of people who buy from these places havent bothered researching health issues to know that the majority wont show until the dog is much older. It makes it sound like a car or something!

Every good breeder I know offers a lifetime "Guarantee" (ie back up and support) on their pups.

^^^this completely...

I dont class myself as a breeder (I definitely dont do it for the money) but my policy is to anyone who isnt a friend, you have my number for any worries and if at any point you cant have the dog any more then return it to me, no quibble.

Ohh yes, all too real...

I work for a rescue not too far from one of their establishments; the number of dogs with "Dogs4Us" paperwork coming into work is quite remarkable, a number of these "pedigree" dogs that look nothing like the breed they supposedly represent is also pretty interesting.

I do not understand how they are still going, they have had a bad reputation for such a long time I would have thought they would have been closed down years ago.

We bought a puppy from this place (Mayfield Kennels) back in the mid 70s when puppy farming was not widely known about. He was unfortunatley put down when he was about 4yo as he was aggressive towards children, and so couldn't be trusted in a family household. I don't remember all the details, but my parents did talk about him "having a screw loose" as he would attack and bite totally unprovoked. As the years went on and puppy farming became more widely known about by the general public, when I was a teenager I remember my dad would often comment how he thought the dog's temperament was down to poorly bred animals being mass roduced for kennels such as these, which certainly seems pretty likely in retrospect. Poor dog, apart from the times he flipped he was lovely.

I have two JRTs, the older one (9 yr old) was bred in a family home and is the sweetest, snuggliest dog ever. The younger one (6yr old) was bought from a pet shop, which has since been closed down, and he has what we call 'issues' he can be really sweet then its as if a 'red mist' comes down and he is awful although he has never bitten a human he does bully the older one

Yes unfortunately - I warn people away from it all the time. Used to be Mayfield kennels if I remember correctly.
Horrendous place and should be shut down!!
We've been told by a number of different people that they buy from puppy farms and sell the pups on for 2 or 3 hundred pounds more than they paid.
K x

I went into the Leeds one when it had just opened a few years ago, obviously not to buy a pup I hasten to add. The staff were appalling, young girls with no idea what they are talking about ....

me " Are the labs from hip scored parents? (I have gsd's but thankfully none in so pretended to be interested in a lab)
Girl "what a hip score?"
me "when the bva check for hip dysplasia "
girl " OH Yeh , the puppies av all ad that themselves but don't know about parents cause like we don't see em"
me " ok, its says full pedigree, so thats KC pedigree is it"
Girl "Eh?"
me "is it kennel club registered, what paperwork do you get?"
girl "Yeh, and like we have this better one called DLR papers and its all official like"

Thats just a snippet of what went on, ricky hatton endorses Dogsrus, great big pic of hime when you go in, think the Shrek fanmily aka rooney was used too with a pic of colleens mutt

Also the 6 month guarantee excludes genetic problems .. knackered hips / elbows/ eyes ... sorry its genetic so not covered
