Bless the person who thought that they were doing me a favour by putting some hay in for Ralph today, but, they have caused more harm than good

Ralph has COPD and I have soaked his hay for 7 years since he had strangles, I went up to the yard this afternoon to find him coughing like a trooper, the girl who shares my locker had put in half a bale of hay unsoaked and its not great hay

I've already asked her not too but she thinks he looks starved

If only the 603kg monster was starved

So, now hoping the cough isn't going to get worse

This sort of thing used to happen to a friend of mine. Her mare had quite a severe dust allergy, some people at the yard thought she was making it all up, put some dry hay in the field. Luckily I used to walk across said field to get to the yard so had spotted the offending stuff before the horse did. | was able to warn her. Que big barny with interferers!! So wrong, poor horse could have had a serious reaction had we not got rid of it before she found it!!

I must admit something similar almost happened to me today. I took a haynet that had been at my house with a couple of sections of hay up to the pony, and OH said, 'should I just chuck it in the field?'. The hay has been there for about a month and has been out in the rain, so I said no, want to check if its mouldy, and also was sure there was a reason not too...couldn't remember what, but said no.

Anyway...having just read this thread, the other horse out with her has COPD. Sometimes, I think I am actually an undercover genius. It is easy for people to do silly things, and not think. She thought she was just helping, and maybe didn't understand the link. Never give any one else's horse anything unless you have permission!
