Doing more than one class at a hunter trial?

... on a relatively fit 8 yo sports horse? Possibly 70/80cm or possibly 80/90cm?

Have been asked by 2 people to lead them round a pairs class...

If he/she is fit enough I don't see why not, I used to do the pairs and then the individual on my ponies! :)

I will often do two classes, but I would check the rules whether you are allowed to take the same horse around the same class twice?

i do two classes a bit. but would only really push for a result and speed in one, as my lad would give himself a heart attack with the excitement. I'd take it down a gear in the other class and ride it slower. Tons of my friends do 2 classes with no issues.

I'm going to enter two classes at my next hunter trial, I just try to make sure there isn't a really long wait in between the first and second class I enter so he doesn't get cold (or bored!) Plus I'l do two smaller classes rather than one big one

I'd put my horse in the "relatively fit" section too and he's the same age as yours- we can hack out mainly trot and walk and a little canter without him sweating for two hours, so think he is more than capable to do a 4-6 minute hunter trial twice in one day!

A hunter trial course might just about be as long as one line on a Drag hunt and we usually do four lines at a meet. The critical factors are the individual length of one round and the recovery time between rounds. Providing the horse at no time gets into serious oxygen debt (lactic acid production in the muscles) they can do an amazing amount of work.Recovery time of about 20 minutes ,mooching about ,not standing still .
