Dolly Is Broken

Dolly went for her xrays yesterday. She has at some point fractured her sesamoid bone and a small piece of the bone has broken away. Her annular ligament is inflamed and twice the size it should be. Vet is not sure if they are related, whether the broken fragment has damaged the ligament, or whether she has pulled the ligament separately. He medicated into the tendon sheath to try and reduce the inflammation and she is on box rest for 2 weeks. He is coming to see her in 2 weeks and if she has improved, she can then go on field rest for at least 4 weeks. He said she will come sound again, but it could take anything from 6 weeks to 3 months.

Has anyone else had anything similar?

Hi, no experience of this but I hope she gets better soon. At least the prognosis is very good - even 3 months isn't THAT long (although it seems it!). At least she can go out as well, so she won't have to be on BR for the whole time. Have some {{{{vibes}}}}

Thankyou both of you.

No, 3 months isn't that long and she has always been a hard worker, so am hoping she really enjoys the field rest once she can out.

So sorry to hear this Theresa. 2 weeks box rest isnt so long, and then at least she will have a lovely rest in the fields while the weather is still nice - would be horrible for her if she were stuck in for the whole time. She'll be fine in no time!

will send you a pm if you have cleared your box by now!

Oh no!!!

As others have said, the prognosis is very good- thank god for that! Poor Dolly

Thanks all of you. I know she will be fine and I am lucky she hasn't got anything a lot more serious unlike some on here.

Can you all please send her some slimming vibes though as she has piled on the pounds already!
