So need to give horse Dormosedan gel for shoeing. Once the effects have worn off. Takes a long time with him. Would it be safe to travel later the same day. I've googled it but can't find an answer. Thanks.

You know your horse. How long does it take to wear off? I'd prefer to travel with him compos mentis as it were although I have had to travel sedated horses before but personally I wouldn't recommend it.

So. What time are you giving it plus the amount of time he takes to wake up I'd say. Then travel.

Vet has provided me with Domosedan for travelling so it is safe to travel whilst they're under but like with any sedation , if you can wait til it's worn off before travelling then that would be better.

I have travelled a few coming out of sedation, leaving vets, I make sure there is not a scrap of hay for them to chew on as they are coming out of it, and drive very carefully, and it’s not been a problem. If I was going on particularly windy roads as they were coming out I’d probably try and avoid it, but otherwise I personally think it’s fine. However you know your horse!

I've travelled horses an hour or so after heavy IV sedation with the ok of the vet so would imagine several hours after effects have worn off ought to be ok
