I bought a horse last year and he came with an old style saddle 17 1/2 mw brown gp type very comfy and It's in really good condition, I'm not bothered about getting any money for it so thought about donating it to a riding school, equine charities...etc do u think anywhere like that would want it??

Any ideas appreciated

Donate it to an equine charity. Im sure even the leather would come in handy if the saddle is too old to put on a horses back. :) ps what a lovely thought. :)

I donated a saddle to a certain equine charity in the past, thinking that it would be useful to them to use on their horses in the centre, for riding.

When I "donated" it, they knew that this is what I thought they'd be doing with it, and was happy that my dear old boy's saddle would benefit another poor horse somewhere.

I was a little put out when I later found out that they routinely auction all their donated tack, saddles etc. Of course, I realise they have to maximise donations and achieve the very best price they can, but I'd donated this saddle on the premise that it would actually be USED in their centre.

So donate your saddle if you want to, but be aware that it might not be used for the purpose which you might intend. I certainly feel I was "had" to be honest - not a nice thing to do really.

I too have a saddle, which I've been meaning to donate to an equine charity for ages - just haven't got around to it yet.

Actually MJR2BT, by making money out of the sale of your saddle, I believe that the charity DID "benefit another poor horse somewhere", but I agree that it would have been polite of them to tell you that this was a probability.

Why not find a saddler that sells on commission and donate whatever you get to a charity of your choice?
