Hello everyone,

I've had a bit of a clear out over the last few days. I've sifted through an accumulation of horsey items from the last 20 years and some of it is not worth selling however can still do a good job. I have a full trunk full of brushes, mane combs, old travel rugs, boots, old saddles, old bridles (and many spare parts) and was wondering if there was any system or place to which I could donate these items?

I don't want any money for them as they are old items and are not in the best of condition but the saddles/bridles would be ideal for backing/breaking ponies and for lunging. The brushes are all in reasonable condition but simply surplus to requirements!

I am in the South West of Scotland and was just wondering if anywhere knew somewhere relatively local that could make use of all this equipment?

Thanks very much,

B

I tried to do the same when I had a rug clear out. I had a number of rugs which were outgrown, but perfectly waterproof and functional. I wanted to give them to the ILPH (as it was then) but they insisted that I had them all professionally washed and re-proofed before they would take them.

That would have cost me a huge amount of money before even getting them to the charity. I found it so ungrateful. I buy second hand rugs all the time, and don't expect them to come cleaned!

Good luck, hope you find someone who will graciously receive your items. ;)

you might be better off trying to sell your things on ebay and donate to charity of choice.

Brooke, SPANA & PFK take gentle bits, headcollars, bridles, fly fringes and fleeces/soft material.

Try Blue Cross, SSPCA & Mountain Animal Rescue for Scotland based rescue centres.

I've also got a similar amount of stuff that would be useful to a charity. I'd thought perhaps this charity I found on f/book ACE Supporters Essex & SE UK but needs to be posted, so courier is probably the cheapest way?

were are you, ACE collected a load of stuff from me on saturday, they are currently trying to get people around the UK to set up collection points but it will take a while, I am happy to be a drop off point as are the vets I work at and other local equine vets to me will too and I will collect from them

Don't want to be a party pooper but I have had donations of this sort of thing over the years. Most of which I still have and is taking up space (if anyone would like to volunteer to take them to a car boot sale for me I would be very grateful).
Some of the rugs I have been able to use, but I have LOTS of hoof picks, plastic curryflex brushes, wool bandages, bits and pieces of leatherwork (nosebands, reins and the like), stable rugs, so by all means offer them but be prepared for them to turn them down.
Not saying this is true for you but I feel as though I have been a dumping ground sometimes.
