After much thinking I've decided to donate my old boys rugs (he passed away in December last year) and they are only clogging up space now, I have some seriously nice ones but I would rather donate them to be used for horses, not to be sold on, anyone any recommendations?

Also I have a few from my youngster that he's grown out of

It's a great idea, I have a few old ones and a few I bought the wrong size for and will be donating them too, have you got a local equine rescue centre?

That's very nice of you and sorry for your heartache.

I'm sure there are local charities out there that would love a generous donation of rugs.
Google for charities in your area or contact larger charities like RSPCA etc as I'm sure they will have contacts in your area.

How about a local riding school or RDA?

Good luck

Id rather send them to a charity that's really desperate. There is a local one near us called HAPPA but I do not want to donate to them, I've been following a charity on Facebook but they are in Ireland don't know how much it would cost to send a load over day if I could fill a container?

we took a frontera boot full of rugs to The Horse Trust in oct, a lot we didn't need and from two old boys we had lost. they were all in very good condition. could have sold them but sometimes its not about the money.....we love the work The Horse Trust do.

Anyone know of a rescue centre/charity near Newbury that could do with old rugs and bits and bobs? I'm having a clear out as my boy has over 50 rugs!!!!!

over 50 rugs! wow. Don't know any around there, maybe start a separate thread to ask?

There will be the rspca near you who would take them and distribute them to one of there equine centers.

World Horse Welfare are in Lancs as well I think, they were taking in large numbers of abandoned horses and ponies at present.

i am currently selling rugs that have been donated.. I suggest doing on ebay or selling private then using the moneys for gambia or egypt horses. If on ebay click on donate 100% to charity then click find or type charity in.

I am keeping records and the cash then will but first aid etc and send it to the gambia trust uk address to be shipped out.

will send u link via pm

I'm sure HAPPA would welcome them, I've taken about 20 rugs and a saddle there, in the last few months.

They'll take them in any condition x

I think world horse welfare will be my best bet as I think they are the most in need and they do a great job better than RSPCA :) I do not like the RSPCA at all anymore after recent articles in the news. Thanks for your help x

Oh and leviathan I got your pm! I will try and organise a donation to them aswell x

At our small local charity people are very kind re: donating unwanted stuff - however please make sure rugs are clean and in good repair. Sadly people have been known to donate rugs that could stand up on their own! Getting them cleaned is expensive and time consuming - however I imagine the bigger charities have their own rug washing facilities so don't be put off.

I'll give world horse welfare a ring and see what they say xx

Yes I have had info about Blue Cross Burford tack sale next weekend as well.

We took all our equipment to Blue Cross Rolleston when we lost our mares, they were very pleased and I believe their tack sales are popular. Plus they kept what was useful to themselves.
