Done to death I know but... 3.5t van conv vs coachbuilt

Beware the window between horse and driver !!!!! the smell-o-vision is overwhelming haha !! very useful though although I do have a monitor too with one camera for horse area and one for reversing ! I also have a light in horse area I can turn on/off from cab and light in rear which is useful.

I looked at three counties but their pricing was a little steep for me - I went to burley horseboxes in andover (shows you every stage of build when you visit) - very pleased - ended up with a newer van with less miles (did buy van myself and got it converted) - at three counties I could have only afforded the basic conversion and high mileage van.

Haha, know what you mean- the smells bad enough in a 7.5t with the door open between you and the horses and you're miles away from them then, can only imagine what it's like when their bum's right behind your head lol

Interesting about Burley though, thank you. I've had a look at their website and they're much nearer to me (in Kent) than three Counties.

Do you have any pics of yours?

I bought my Renault Master from Foxy Twin horseboxes in Sussex last year. Love it. The only thing I would say about any of these conversions is check their history. Many are ex-courier vehicles so have high mileage and hard working previous lives.

Sadly I don't think my budget will stretch to those having looked on their website. Thank you for the advice though, much appreciated :)

I have a 3500 kg Burley Horsebox, bought april 2013 for me by my dad, he is an engineer and we visited quite a few horsebox companies some of which have been named by the other posters, all over looking at the various options/ prices.
Ours is a van conversion not a coachbuilt.
We thought that some were quite overpriced considering the build standard.
after a lot of research we decided to buy ours from burley horseboxes as my dad thought they were well engineered and safe, plus they were extremely helpful an showed us not only a lovely fully finished one but ones in various stages of construction, we were able to see all of the structural work that went into the conversion.
Ours has a fully sealed fibreglass floor so no posibility of urine seeping between the floors and rotting them out in a few years.
We also had a choice of van before it was converted, they said they did not buy ex courier vans due to the stop start abuse they get, ours was from a big window fitting company, it came fully serviced with a new cambelt and 12 months MOT.
We also have a full set of pictures showing all the stages of the build from start to finish.
We had ours weighed the other month and it weighed around 2250kgs giving a payload of 1250kgs.

I would certainly recommend Burley horseboxes, call Tony he is extremely helpful and knowledgeable, he is not a saleman so will not force you to buy one.

good luck and I hope this helps

Ooh purewell that's great that you put it on a weighbridge, I always meant to with mine but never did. Rising_promise have a look at my profile, pics in my album, if I did it again I would get Tony to choose the van as I had a bit of a nightmare getting my own.

Thank you, it's very nice to hear positive stories about different companies.

Good payload too and well worth putting it on the weigh bridge.

I've emailed Tony and he's come back offering to show me round and the different stages which was really helpful.

Thanks Meesha, will have a look at your piccies. I'd definitely get them to source my van- don't trust myself to do it right, especially if they've got a selection and will have serviced them all etc
