I don't know a lot when it comes to donkeys but tonight i think found 2 that are not in the best state.

To me it looks like they haven't had their feet done in years and because of this their legs are f***ed.
They are full of worms and lice. the bigger one has a sore under its eye that is leaking pus!

So all you donkey people I need you to give me as much welfare info as possible!!!
Like how often they need their feet done and who by?
when do you worm donkeys?
how should a donkey stand?
going back tomorrow with camera and my mum to have a better look at them!

I have a friend with donkeys and they have their feet trimmed every 2-3 months, whenever needed. they stand like a normal horse. They should be wormed regularly too especially cos of the lungworm they can carry.

Thanks their feet are not that bad but thier not how they should be their about i'd say quarter that lenghth. thier standing really oddly as well and their legs are covered in cuts!
 
A donkeys feet won't look the same as a horse, but look very similar. they should not be too long etc and definately not be turning at the toe. They should be trimmed every 6 - 8 weeks.
They should be wormed exactly the same as horses.

If you are worried about them, and I certainy would be from what you have said, then the best thing would be to call the Welfare Office at the Donkey Sanctuary, they have inspectors all over the country.

PS. Lungworm is almost an old wives tail, they are not common in donkeys these days.
 
Thank you Donkeymad am going back tomorrow and will take photos. I know who owns them but not who looks after them, might have a chat with owner first as don't think he would see them that often or would know if they where in good health! he would trust who is looking after them! and trust that they are doing it right.

Thanks For your PM it feels really odd not knowing what they should be like, if it was 2 horses or ponys i'd know straight away what to do and whats wrong!

Will be back at them tomorrow and see what I can do to help them, will pm you then!
