Donkey Sanctuary Facing Closures

Hmmm. I have a lot of conflicting feeling about this, they used to be an amazing charity who did a lot of good but since Elisabeth’s death, it’s headed into directions I really don’t like and a tendency to hoard rather than re-home.

Their education work abroad was superb.

But they had absolutely huge money reserves, I don’t know what’s happened to that?

I don’t fee sorry for them.

There are far better uses of charity money than brand new oakley supreme’s complete with full luxury living.
As a charity they may have got the lorries at a reduced price as it is good advertising for the manufacturer, or they may have been purchased by a benefactor (and this should be something the charity looked into before acquiring them). I don't know if this is the case, and IMO if the charity bought them at full price with their general funds then that wasn't a good use of money.

Along with the RSPCA this is a charity that I have actively avoided supporting for the last 30 years.

Even then one of their area managers told me that any donkey which enters their premises will have something wrong with it. This is because it looks better on their records than taking in healthy donkeys. So your much loved donkey which has been well looked after will still have something wrong found with it.

I wonder what will happen for those of us who foster their donkeys. I have two living with me. They came from the Manchester centre and one of their staff from the Leeds centre comes to see them and check all is well with vaccs, feet, dental, weight etc once or twice a year. They’re still owned by the Donkey Sanctuary though I have their passports and they have a home for life here hopefully. It’s always been good having their back up though and knowing should anything happen to me or should my circumstances change they would take them back and re settle them appropriately. I wonder whether someone will be allocated to oversee them from another centre.
