I saw a mammoth donkey on Horsemart while browsing (advert now expired :( ) and I sort of fell in love a tiny bit  Apparently they were bred in the US and they're picking up the bloodlines over here now too? Could be wrong on that though.

Has anyone ever owned a donkey? Can you tell me the main differences between caring for donkeys versus horses?
And in the case of mammoth donkeys, has anyone ever ridden one? What was it like? I'm guessing no matter how mammoth you can't haul one round Badminton :p

Just curious really :)
Tea & biccies for all x

Always wanted a donkey but don't know much about them. I've heard they're not as weather proof as horses? And more stubborn to ride, as in you discuss and compromise to their way when they object. Will find this thread interesting if people know more though!

My relative use to keep her horse with a donkey who was 50 years old! It would go in and out of its shelter I think they like dry ie not muddy areas and yes their coats are not waterproof like a horse.

Stubborn yes and have a blooming bony back and I just remember their legs feel like they will snap in two! Am sure they wont but thats what it felt like.

My sisters horse and donkey tolerated each other and didnt stand together or groom etc.

Completly differant to horses (They think first act after, fight not flight) which is why a lot of horse owners can't handle them :)

As for your Badmington comment :D

Whoaaa jinglejoys, that's amazing!
Bucket list number 1: get a donkey round Badders :D

That stud looks amazing and it's local to me, the one I was looking at before was based in Dorset.

Hmm, I feel a bit of donkey research coming on... ;)

I think you're thinking of http://www.extraordinaryequines.co.uk/donkey.php but I think they've closed

Of coarse if you really want to cause a stir at Badmington you could always try this

There was an Army Mule that competed in show jumping and won till they found out he was a mule and confiscated his trophies (horse people never like being beaten by a mule :) )

This fella's 20
