Donnerhall

I have been looking for a new horse and have seen a mare by a KWPN out of a Donnerhall mare. Can anyone tell me what Donnerhall horses are like both in temperment and soundness please. I dont want anything with attitude or problems.

My general experience with them is that they are nice, with a good temprement, forwards going and willing to work. I certainly wouldnt turn one down

Probably *the* most influential dressage sire....I think he has the highest dressage breeding value index of all stallions. He has produced far better horses than, say, Weltmeyer. Just look at the starting order of any top international competition to see how productive this line is - just a quick glance at today's starting order for the European Championships in Rotterdam shows at least 5 Donnerhall sons or grandsons, and I am sure I've missed some!

He was phenomenally successful himself, and has a reputation for producing extremely rideable offspring with fab temperament.

My gelding is Donnerhall lines - fab temperament, no soundness issues, very willing to work.

I adore my boy as I am a complete dressage numpty but he teaches me things all the time

Thanks Slinkyunicorn. Does your boy jump. We are looking for a horse, preferably a mare as I love mares, to do affilliated dressage so must move well and also a bit of SJ and XC to break up the training though nothing too big. The dressage is the main activity though.

My boy came from a competive dressage home - was totally overschooled and went sour in the school - was then unsuccessfully used as a dressage schoolmaster before he was used for SJing clinics (min of 3ft) and then he did half a seasons hunting which he loved. He came to me after that - I changed his management to lots of turnout and hacking and now he has come full circle and is happy to work in the school again. He was school up to GP in dressage and sj up to 4 foot and as I say loved hunting - he looks after himself as well as he has clean legs and *touches wood * has never been lame. I don't jump (only tiny crosspoles!) but my neice does and he will happily ping around 3 - 4 foot He doesn't get strong just puts in enough effort to get over and will drop into walk when he is done

He is a 'chunky' more traditional type and about 16'2 not the more leggy big dressage types you see around.

His temperament - despite his earlier days (he has scars on his rump from be being beaten) - is fabulous he is very willing and loves attention and cuddles but isn't a pushy in your face sort

He sounds lovely, but what a shame about the scars on the rump!!! It makes you wonder what goes on in some of these so called "professional" yards doesn't it.

I hope you have many more happy years ahead with him.
