Don't always believe what you are told!

Both of my exmoors are allegedly 12hh, but my mare is a good 2 inches higher than my gelding. I've never measured either of them, so would be interesting to see who is what!!

I had my daughter's pony measured by the vet (well it was actually me holding the stick, as he wouldn't let a man go near him with an orange stick) as she'd got into an unaffiliated final of a competition where the max height was 14.2, and her pony looked tiny compared to most of the others so much so that she even got asked 'is he a 13.2?' by a couple of other riders towering above her, so I was curious as we'd been sold him as 14h . Anyway despite being a good 4 inches shorter than one or two that day , he is just over 14h but not quite 14.1 without shoes, so was exactly as told when sold.

I find ponies are always over estimated and large horses underestimated. I did a weeks work experience with a vet when in sixth form and I remember when they used to come in for their annual or first height cert - I would guess 90% of owners were surprised at the certified height.

I can completely understand young horses growing so not having the correct height on their passport when they mature. But my pony has almost lost a hand! And when he was measured he was a little wide eyed at the stick so grew another inch! He's probably more like a smidge over 13hh! I love him just the way he is though :D xx
