When mine get the occasional bout of colitis we put them on Chappie for a couple of days. Works as well as the expensive stuff from the vets. And without fail it is when I try them on high meat content good foods that they get the colitis. The only food that Ive found works for them is Burns. Anything 'better' just sets them off with the dodgy tums.
I think, although I wouldn't ignore the "this is a good food, this is not" thing entirely at the end of the day it is pretty individual what each dog seems to do well on.
