Don't know if this has been posted yet but statement from Linda Parelli.

And you can use it everyday, I know I do and to be honest a lot of it is enlightening people to a bit of commonsense and taking a different approach.

The really interisting thing about IH IMO is the extra insight into things you allready do without thinking.
It's natural to us to do XY and Z a certain way,and very interisting to learn how and why the horse responds to us/our actions in the way they do.

But TBH,mostly I like them because they dont stick an advert at the end of everything :p

Without spending a (not so) small fortune on her DVD's,we cant see why she choose to do what she did and I very much doubt it would excuse her actions anyway ;)

I have no axe to grind either way, if something works regardless of who's "system" it is I will use it, but looking again at the video it seems she starts off with a calm horse, winds it up, then winds it down again, all while nervously coughing, what was the point of the exercise ?, then watching her explanation video she keeps widening her eyes while talking, quite sexy over dinner I would say, but not for explaining her actions.

It's wierd to make a big thing out of the weather. Surely if you are dealing with a young or difficult horse and the weather is not making it easy the best thing to do is something simple and then end or not attempt anything. I appreciate that horses have to work in bad weather but a bit of perspective is required. We were due to back my pony on Monday evening but it was blowing a gale, coming over dark and starting to rain. In the end he was long reined in the school and leaned over but we decided not to take it any further and wait until a calmer moment that wasn't asking for trouble!!

I don't think she has done herself any favors by having the video taken to start with & now trying to justify her actions. She even went to the owner of Barney for a letter praising her actions? I think she wants people to buy her DVDs to see the entire treatment she metered out to Barney, that way she would at least make more money out of this disaster

Having looked at the various posts on her website regarding this piece of video the only people supporting her are the brain washed members of the 'savvy club' who have made her & her husband very wealthy people. I can see no redeeming factors of the treatment she dished out to a half blind, one eyed horse horse. If the mindless followers of Mrs Parelli cannot see this then I feel very sorry for them as they are obviously incapable of original thought & are programmed to regurgitate the Parelli philosophy. I hate to think that the Parelli followers believe this is the right way to train a horse because there may he many many more horses being treated in a similar fashion to Barney in the video.

I must say, I dont really understand her reply. (and I dont mean Im having a stupid moment ;) ) it seems that she has just come out with some waffle to try and fob everyone off, but does not clearly address what happens in the video. There are some very interesting comments on the website about that......

If this video is so badly edited, she should release the full clip if that would show her in a better light! I'm sure there are still enough numptys out there who will be buying the dvd for the rest of the content if its so amazing. :S

I was laughing at this thread (more specifically the 'is she on drugs??' bit hehe) and OH asked what i was laughing at, then what Parelli was. I explained the not riding your horse until stage 5 or whatever by which stage you have paid hundreds for dvds, an orange lunge whip, left handed lunge lines, halters etc. And the 'games' and nice names they give mundane or downright nonsense objects and procedures. Then about their followers comments such as 'we love you lind you changed our lives' etc

"that sounds like a cult to me"

Yep.

Ooh yes, forgot to mention that I live at 1100 feet in a National Park and if she thinks THAT was wind she needs to come and work here for a while. Not that I'd let her near one of my horses. I'm firm (very) but fair with my horses and not remotely bothered by the idea of walloping them if they need or deserve it. I've taken on some challenging horses that other people have failed with, but I've never smacked a horse around the head in my life and see no need ever to do so.

Like everyone else who manages to have well behaved horses without ever going near Parelli, I guess we are all just geniuses, eh???

Yep.

Cult, wording almost right

always thought Parelli was a load of old bunkum to be honest and the use of the carrot stick makes me uncomfortable, smacks of intimidation in my opinion, try it on with my cob and they'd soon see how tall he can get on two legs and just how well he can position those front feet on coming down again. No stick and he'll listen to you but waving his rope around in front of him would make him howl with laughter if he could and make him determined to take the michael. He, and I imagine hordes of other horses need consistent, firm but compassionate handling. I never let mine get the better of me but you can do it without violence, one of them knows me so well that if I scowl at him he behaves immediately, he only wants to please at the end of the day.

I just love this bit from one of the posters - how many videos would she like me to send her? The behaviour she describes is the baseline that I expect from my horses. Oh and I don't go to catch mine, they come when they are called.

"Why don't all of you with such negative views and thoughts, film your own relationship with your horses and post them here? You get your chance to show that your horses let you touch them all over without fear or resistance, not step on your feet or walk into you when you are leading them, that they can trailer load without ropes, whips and force, can stand still when mounted without someone holding them, can be ridden without sharp bits, martingales or other straps and who are confident in you as their owner/s, doesn't run out of their stables as soon as you open the door, comes to you when you go out to catch them.

Looking forward to seeing them."

I have been keeping out of this debate but I had to laugh at this! I am another person who said yes to all of theses things and my horse has also lost most of his sight in one eye (and in the next few years he will probably be completely blind in that eye). I have ridden a couple of horses that were parelli trained, one was from the usa and had been to the camps and was at the highest level. It was the rudest and most bargey mare on the yard :( infact most of the things in that list she wouldnt do. Whilst she was in the USA and stabled almost 24/7 she was apparently ok but when she discovered fields and grass she turned into a different horse.

Unfortunatly some cults use sacrifices - used to be a virgin - but linda is virgin on the ridiculus and has to pick up on a disabled horse - poor poor creature and stuff the "wind" excuse its a pity a howling gale dosnt smack a tree branch across her smug - stupid face.

She should be done by the WHW - and have as much bad press as Ceaser Millan did on his recent tour- and at least his show tells you "not to try these methods with out supervison" ! not like the parelli - oh beat your horse and pay us ££'s and we will show you some more fun ways to destroy an innocent horses brain !
