dont know what to do about my horse!

I have a lovely 9 year old Dutch Gelding which i put up for sale. First advertised him 2/3 weeks ago, was inundated with calls and the first people to view fell in love him him and agreed to buy him - they turned out to be massive timewasters so last week he became available again.

I renewed my advert wth H&H but unfortunately some kind of computer glitch meant that the ad did not appear online. I called H&H after a week of no calls and theyve put the ad back up, and ive also advertised him on another website with a video showing him competing at BS (BN) and indoor XC, but now ive had no calls at all!

Im running out of time to sell him, hes on loan the the loaner cannot afford the livery for more than another month and i cant have him here im full to bursting and have no facilities to sell anyway and i dont want to unsettle him. I need a quick sale, this horse has no vices, is sound, and fit and ready to compete. im asking 3995 which is a bargain and ive put miles on his clock too !

Should i drop his price? i am scared that i am going to attract the wrong sort of buyers if i drop the price too much - hes not unsafe but he is a competition horse! Ive spent 75 quid on re-advertising, im not sure what else to do?

Dropping the price a little can't hurt although if somebody wants him they'd pay the price you're asking now!! Try all the other sites, preloved, pets4homes, facebook. Get his advert across!

Hope selling goes well!!
 
If you kept any of the contact details of the other people that rang up last time, try contacting them again? If not, drop the price to 3500 and see what happens
 
Yep hes on preloved and facebook ive put him on all the local area horsey facebook pages and lots of others but still no interest?

I would sell him for 3.5...
 
I'd look at the sites you are advertising him on first - i.e. get him on more than just H&H, there are loads of sites out there so while it will cost a bit more to advertise on multiple sites, I'd try that route before you drop the price.

One other option might be to post the wording of the advert on this forum and get some advice, you might think your advert is good but for potential buyers you might be missing some key information so I'd re-look at that as well.

If none of that works then I'm not sure to be honest, I think if he is as good as you say he is (i.e. in perfect health and currently out and about competing) then he is a bargain - I'm not sure if dropping an already low price would help matters! Perhaps putting up the price might actually be better, perhaps he is a bit too cheap for the competitive riders who might be looking around the £5k mark, they might think there is something wrong with him for that price? Perhaps £4995 might actually be a better price for him?

I would be interested to see your ad and to know what other site you are using other than H&H.
 
I suggest putting the price down to 3.5k ONO - Is there no chance you could loan him out or LWVTB?

If he's a competition horse have you tried horse quest? Lots of nice horses on there for the price range you're looking for

Sorry I've just seen your other replies - so you are on H&H and Preloved? I'd go on equine adverts and horsemart, horsequest is good as well for the more serious competitive types. Horsedeals is another one to consider - Preloved (I think anyway) is great for shares/loans, or for the 'cheaper' project horses but you dont see vast amounts of quality horses on there, so I dont think you'd be attracting the right type of person through preloved.

Have you thought about advertising for loan as well? That might broaden your options at least.

I posted about the ad ( thread got pulled ) when i first put him up for advice, everyone said it was a nice ad.. and ad can be seen now, but im not sure i can link to the H&H one - i did ask the admin for clarification but havent had a reply as yet.

He is a bargain for someone definitely, but has to be someone confident as he is not a schoolmaster but he is safe. Its just one of those things where there is nothing wrong with him at all, but i cant keep him.
 
i really need the money and cant have him come back really hes totally wasted with me! for his sake he needs to be sold. plus LWVTB gets messy more often than not!

Def don't rely on preloved/FB - get him on horsequest & horsemart.

A couple of times I've had more sucess when upping the price!!!!!
 
Try Sales Livery. Hopefully the better price achieved (as he should be in work and able to demonstrate his ability) will help pay for the cost.

If you ask on here, hopefully you will get a few names of possible sales livery people - often people just do one or two nice horses at a time and its all down to local knowledge.

You can then also be a little bit more specific of the type of home he goes to as it will soften the horrible deadline you are facing.
 
Can you call round local pony club leaders, riding club secretaries, your farrier, local yards, instructors etc. and see if they know of anyone locally is looking - this time of year if he's ready for comps people should be looking.

Does your current add make it clear that the previous sale fell through because of buyer issues and through no fault of his and that he's open to full vetting.
If I saw and ad that then disappeared then back again in a few weeks my immediate assumption is that it failed the vet!
 
Thanks for all the replies, i didnt update the text of the ad - maybe i should. Have spoken to my RC, farrier, local yards, neighbours ( very horsey area ) and noone is looking :(

I did send him to sales livery just before xmas for a month but had no luck. the sales livery owner said he was a sweet horse, i think he had one viewing but person was a novice and not suitable. i then decided to wait till spring to sell and thought it was all in the bag!
 
Don't panic, he's lovely. Invest in getting some more photo's done and increase the price.
I changed my photo's to one's that had been taken by a pro and straight away the phone never stopped ringing.
 
Worst case scenario, if no one suitable came along in the next month could your loaner keep him if you paid the livery? Then you would have a bit longer to find the right person at the right price rather than dropping it right down just to get him sold.
 
Good idea Zeb but shes also looking to move so not really possible. At a pinch i could put him at livery down the road but the facilities for selling arent nearly as good and i dont even have a school at the minute! ( still waiting on the Planning Permission grr !)
 
ive edited the ad now as i had some feedback on it - hes not hard to find hes on the H&H site if anyone wants to let me know what they think.

The only thing that stands out is the business about price at the end and the "must be sold", sounds a bit desperate?

How about "good home more important than money, hence the price" or something similar?

Also I'd try the NFED, it's a lot smaller website and there isn't so much competition for good horses and you're not too far away. It has a lot of traffic because of all the ads for useful equine stuff. I found my field there for instance.
 
If the advert has dropped down the list it might be worth adding a date and "still available due to timewasters" type comment.

I know I would be put off by an older ad, not because I would think there would be anything wrong with the horse but I would just think "oh, he's probably been sold by now anyway..."
 
I would draft a completely fresh ad and use new pictures, put him on the high end sites like HQ and H&H. I think propsective purchasers will be put off because he has been advertised a while and will think it's cause he has a problem.
 
I think he looks lovely and ought to sell at that price.

My only criticism of your advert is your main photo. Its very small when you are scanning lists of horses before clicking on your advert, and it doesn't stand out. While you can see he is a good clean jumper, you can't really see him. I would swop it for the one of him standing sideways with someone on him or a sideways jumping one (perhaps the tyres - while not the biggest fence, it gives a good idea of his type and style).

Half term is rushing up, perhaps more people will be looking more seriously then? Have you tried the pc website, as a smaller horse he may be a good teenagers first horse?
 
I dont have any more pics without getting him out and competing again which i cant afford this month ( last competed 3 weeks ago )

He was only up on H&H and Horsequest 2 weeks ago, for 7 days, then was off both sites until yesterday when he was added onto Horsemart as well.
 
One thing i havent tried is the PC website im going to try that next!!!! thanks for a fab suggestion! Have tried re-ordering the pics as i added a new one of him jumping BS at patchetts but i cant seem to make it the main photo
